Default performance? (tire related)

it rained lightly here in DE tonight, and was a tad chilly (40's) - perfect conditions to see what happens with the S-02's... guess what happened? nothing. out of the ordinary, that is, which led me to think: what is the standard of performance expected from those who complain of spinouts and the like in this sort of weather? if you drive sensibly (that is, not VTEC'ing as much fun as it is, not revving all the way out, not punching the throttle - in other words, driving like it's not perfect outside, cause it's NOT), there shouldn't be any problem... is this just my illogical way of thinking, or am i onto something here? this is a car meant to do its thing in the dry, warm weather - is anything else an unreasonable expectation?

Lightning,

I don't own an S2000, however, I agree with what you said. If you drive like it's not perfect outside and drive sensibly, then you will have no problem. It's just like not mashing the pedal all the way when it's snowing outside no matter what you drive. When it rains, just imagine the snow scene and decrease the magnitude a bit.

A lot of people on this board post "driving straight line and spin and totalled car" type of posts. But on the other hand, there are a lot of poeple who truely drive sensibly in bad weather condition so they keep themselves out of trouble. I guess what I'm saying is that there are responsible drivers on this board, but also some not so responsible ones, usually younger age bracket male with more balls than they really have.

Lightning,

Thank you! It gets real old reading all the bitching about the OEM tires...guess it's a lot easier than accepting personal responsibility for driving inappropriately for sub-optimal traction conditions. I've had to try my car in all kinds of crap this last week, including rain and iced-over bridges, during the last couple of weeks while my truck has been in the shop. I don't drive it like a sports car in such poor weather conditions, but it gets me where I'm going w/ zero drama.

you have quite a new tire. give it time, they will become a hazard in the rain in a few thousand miles.
