Default Phantom, please read.....

Hey,

I read somewhere that you powdercoated your stock wheels awhile back. What color is it? I am toying with the idea of powdercoating mine in semi-gloss gunmetal/titanium. While I'm at it, I might powdercoat the calipers red.

I got a quote from a very respectable local powdercoating shop.....around $190.00 for all 4 wheels.

I was wondering if you could e-mail (michael@foarm.com) me some pics if you have any of your powdercoated stock wheels. Any advice? And things to watch out for? Areas not to powdercoat?

Thanks a million.

Mike

I'm sure Tim will chime in with the real info but here is what I can help out with.

His rims are matte black. He paid around $200 for the powdercoating.

As for the calipers, I don't recommend having these guys do them. There is a GB going on with Rick Hesel that I recommend (search in the group buy forum). When you take apart the brakes to powdercoat there are certain pieces that should be replaced w/ new parts, Rick's GB does this for you. The caliper powdercoating will cost $300. Also, you recieve the powdercoated calipers, then swap yours out and send Rick your original calipers, much easier than sending off your calipers to be coated.

MHK S2000,

$190 is a good deal. Mine cost $200 with sand blasting. The color is Vulcan Black (in between gloss and matte black). They fine grit sand blasted the stock wheel powdercoating to create a rough surface so the powdercoating sticks on better. Sand blasting or using chemicals to get off all the stock powdercoating costs a bit more.

Do they poly coat them after the process and how are they holding up?

Cheers

JRM,

They didn't poly coat the wheels after the powder coat. By the way, what is poly coat anyway?

They are holding up pretty good...I really don't use the stock powdercoated wheels that much because I try to save the S02's for track events and weekend drag races.
