Default phase cancellation exhaust

Does anybody make a phase cancellation exhaust for the s2000? Instead of using baffle material it changes the phase and bounces the sound back into itself to cancel out the noise.

They look like this

nope.

for that your stuck welding those (or other flowmaster style) mufflers on to some piping.

actually this is alot more complicated than people think. You can't just weld these RSC exhausts onto any car and expect them to work. They just won't They are tuned to cancel out a specific sound frequency by reflecting it back 180 degrees out of phase to cancel it out. The muffler must be tuned per vehicle. This is the same principle as heimholtz resonators that are on our car now. Very low restriction if any and noise canceling. I have wondered if you could achieve the same effect with a bunch of heimholtz resonators in series.

FYI flowmasters are not at all the same thing, completely different technology than RSC(reflective sound cancellation)

I've seen variation on these where they use a Helix spiral around a central tube so the pressure waves arrive at the end of the muffler out of phase. Works well on a race car but need to be tuned to the rpm and cam phasing of the motor. They can resonate at other rpm and be annoying for road use.

I believe Lexus has invested over $1M in to phase cancellation. Their goal was to release it on the SC430, but it was too expensive and VERY complicated.

If you are worried about noise, did you see the Chipperman thread about that QuietCoat tar stuff that kills the noise?

In my un-edumicated opinion, this appears to operate on the same principle as the Helmholtz filter (the little 90-degree pipe) that our exhausts already have.

So don't worry - you already have that technology on your car!

you are correct. The big difference with an RSC muffler is that it cancels out multiple frequencies instead of just one by a single heimholtz resonator. That's why I wonder how many frequencies you would need to tune out to be effective. Since the exaust does not have any expansion chambers you don't have the backpressure(and backpressue is ALWAYS bad) that a regular exhaust would have. Some power should be freed up but it's not clear how much. Still it should be significant.

can I quiet coat the inside of every CHP so they can't hear me? no this is about a legal but unrestrictive exhaust. I wish I had more time to play around with it.

You can make a donation to BRIBE A COP which will make your exhaust legal.

CrazyPhud... aren't you a chemist (or at least almost)? What is this I hear about you tinkering with aerodynamics, nissan differentials, and now phase cancelling exhausts? You must be a MAD SCIENTIST!
