newbie ? on s2k hp #s
greetings,
i'm fairly new here but very interested in s2ks. i've been reading threads of people reporting their dyno numbers and they all seem low. honda states the car as having 240hp...but everyone's numbers seem to average more around 200-215hp stock. even some people install a sc and are only getting 260 or so. is this just dyno error? are the cars rated higher than they actually are? is there a general difference between the ap1 and ap2 hp numbers?
thanks! sorry for the newbie questions...

The number reported by vehicle manufacturers is the power made by the engine (i.e., 240). The number reported by the vehicle owners is the power made at the wheels (i.e., 200).
You need to consider that the power has to travel from the engine, through the drivetrain (transmission, drive shaft, axles, etc.) before it gets to the wheels. Due to frictional forces, power will be lost along the way.
Of course this is just a simplified version, there are more details to it.

every car manufacturer states the hp their car makes at the engine's crankshaft... every car has a certain percentage of "drivetrain loss"... depending on all the things shivers mentioned... most members quote the hp that actually gets to the wheels... so both #'s you hear are correct...just that the wheel hp or (whp) #'s are a more practical measurement...
