Picking up an MY 08
Hey guys,
I am a former owner of an MY07 Silverstone. Sold it to get a 370z, which was the biggest automotive mistake I've ever made. There is a reason why the 370 receives no love in every comparison tests and why it loses to every car in best motoring races. It is a horribly engineered car that overheats and driving feel is as there as a mercedes e class. So i took a big hit and sold it.
While i owned the 370, i began getting real bad s2k withdrawals and now that I have the best daily (2012 Sonata), I'm ready to pick up another S and keep it for good this time. It's an 08 that' I'm looking at but since I've been out of the game for a few years i thought I'd ask you experts for some help. Any particular detail that I should pay attention to while looking at the car? How do I know if the engine wasn't overrevved? Is compression and leakdown test the only way to tell? I'm pretty confident in everything else, but have never done a compression test before. What are the normal numbers for an 08 with 4000 miles? Is there any shop that you guys recommend in the Placentia, CA area to get this done right? Thanks in advance and let me know if you can add anything to this.

I may be alone on this, but I really wouldn't worry much about it if it has only 4000 miles, as long as there aren't any obvious problems. AFAIK, AP1s are the only ones you really need to worry about being overrevved. AP2s came with better retainers.

I wouldnt worry too much, if you dont hear any weird noises on a ap2 its prob fine. If you can do a compression test thats good also, but since its only got 4k miles its prob fine. 08-09 have a softer clutch feel so get used to that too. Other than that welcome back!

Thanks guys. I'll keep that in mind. I've driven a ton of cars recently and aside from the 2012 cayman R, NOTHING comes close to the S in terms of pure driving experience. Cayman R on the other hand.....oh my god.

on a serious note, can you give me a brief summary how your test drive went with the R? how's it versus S2? vs. 370z?
thx.
