I had an incredible time at Summit Point Raceway yesterday.
The event is called FATT, short of Friday At The Track. Basically you bring your own car to run at the track with the instructor riding with you. The track is located in West Virginia and it took me about one hour and 20 minutes to get there from where I live.
The event was totally booked way before and I didn't get to pre-book but went there anyway with the faint hope that they will let me in if I wait as a standby. I was on time but not fast enough to be first on the stand-by list, but dead last(6th)!
At the time of arrival one red S2000 was there.

Owned by Steve, but he didn't know about the discussion forum made for S2000. I invited him for the future meet at Burke Lake on Oct 22nd.
Here is pic of Steve and my car.

As you can see from the picture, the weather was breathtaking. Little chilly in the early morning(8AM) but there wasn't a cloud in the sky and later on the temperature was perfect 75-79
Later on 2 other S2000 showed up! Another silver and red. Oddly none have visited Honda-acura.net or this board. I let them know about the forums and again I invited them to Burke Lake meet(but maybe they will not or forget, but at least I tried). Forgot his name, but the other red S2000 ran the advanced group.

Anyway, after attending the first class meet, they let me in!!!
After learning about flags and hand signals and usual stuff about apex and turning lines, I was ready for my first track run. Unfortunately since I was very late, the instructor drove twice around the track ending the first session abruptly.
Here is the view of the Summit Point raceway.

3 other sessions I was able to drive around the track and it was a blast. I backed out lot sooner on the long straightaway, but the instructor was very impressed how fast my car got up to. There were handful of cautionary yellow flags and unfortunately on the 3rd session was halted because of the black flag. A guy driving Nissan 240SX? flipped over on the off-road gravel. Thankfully he had an roll cage so him and the instructor riding was unhurt. He was probably going little too fast on the corner and understeered and went straight to the tire wall. I really felt for him and hope he made home ok. It re-assured me that you can have fun but it can be quite dangerous and not worth wrecking your baby over. I even heard that not to long ago, the guy got killed in souped-up Mustang going too fast on the straightaway there.
On the last session, I pushed just tad harder on the corners(probably nothing to all of you). Here is what happened to the tires.
Pretty cool. The guy in the advanced group was much worse of course.

At the end of the day, I didn't want to go but sadly I had to come home to get to work.
I had a great time and everything was perfect. My car absolutely screamed when it was in VTEC and my car was putting out everything when I asked for. But I did suffer losing the towing hook cover in the end of the day.
After the lunch time was there was an instructor's session and I got a chance to hop in on the Maxima SE and was able to observe how much he pushed the car to the limit. It was quite awesome how he handled the car.
I am usually trigger happy with the camera but I only manage to grab a handful because I was having too much fun behind the wheel.
Here is some pic of other cars.
What is it called? It was very cool.

Here is rare dark green NSX-T

Pics of the guy running advanced group. Notice the blurry picture running beside Corvette(hint, hint, going to fast for my camera)

I am definitely coming back there later time again, posively with Gregg on December 15?
It would be awesome if Gregg will do the in-car video footage of the entire track.
I am sure there will be more S2000 participating in the future. This car is really made for this stuff and you really owe yourself to at least take it out on to the track once. 4 S2000 was the most same car outthere! and at this rate we can easily organize S2000 event at the Summit Point having all to ourselves.

Yep, Panterra...aren't they Ford-engined? If I'm not mistaken, the engine varies wildly, and it could be just about anything Ford's made, right?

Great post, I love reading about track days

If memory serves me correct I believe the Pantera has a 351 cleveland motor so yes it is a Ford product. Also a great suspension!

Hey randy... what was your top speed down the big straight???

isn't that place a blast. I don't think some of the instructors are Instructor material, but most have a pretty good idea of how to keep their student at least pointed in the right direction (and all 4 tires on the ground).

where did the guy flip? Turn 10, or turn 1?

The performance brake pads will be a huge help when they come in, especially braking from 125mph+ to 40mph at turn 1.

Scott, I thought you were going to be there, so I kept asking all of the S2000 owner if they are Scott.
The guy flipped Nissan over is right after Turn 3 called Wagon Bend. I don't know what happened but maybe he took the turn 3 too fast or something happened to the tire and went straight into the off road instead of turning back left to get ready for the turn 4. Needless to say the woman instructor riding with him was pretty shooked up. I think there could have been injury if the car didn't have the roll cage. I really felt bad for him.
On the straight path I went up to optimistic speedo of 127 but backed off way before since I am a beginner and didn't want to scare the instructor also as you could have imagined the track was bit crowded. If the exit speed before the straight path was good and if I took it all the way possible, who knows how much I could have gotten up to. My instructor was impressed and maybe someday, he would like to take it for a spin the right way. First time he drove the S2000 and for the twice around the track he took it really easy to show me the track around and proper turning points.

Are S2000s required to have roll cage or roll bar for Summit Point???

Did any of the S2000s have roll cage or roll bar????? If so, what kind.

Thanks.

No rollcages *needed* for anycar, including s2000's.... stock hoops are ok...plus some common sense!

Randy - I don't like blowing $300 for one day, since I go through a full set of pads plus the $150 fees.

I have been to summit a handfull of times, and will probably do some traveling this next summer to lime-rock, watkins glen and VIR just to get a different scene.

I would also like to get on the jefferson course at summit too.

glad you had fun!!! I would have recongnized your car had i been there.
