integrale--thanks for pointing that out, i meant lower for performance, alow me to edit that.

When going along at WOT keep in mind the car will go slightly rich due to the fact that the computer will ignore all input from the O2 sensors. it will run on a preset fuel map.

what year is the volkswagen? if you have any questions i may be of help for you, i am a tech for a VW dealer.

I saw what was left of a piston from a 1967 Ford engine that had been subjected to prolonged engine knocking (aka, preignition). Most of the crown of the piston was gone, eaten away by the knocking condition. This was in an engine that didn't have any computer to control anything. It was up to the driver to control his vehicle and maintain it properly.

Knocking is NOT GOOD for your engine. Knocking is caused by an engine that is too hot, timing too advanced, engine too lean or a buildup of carbon deposits in the combustion chambers. You can also add too much compression and incorrect parts (head gasket, pistons).

you didnt say what year it was, but i know we have been reprogramming quite a few ECM's. I think it is for beetls and jettas though. Also i have been replacing quite a few of these ECM's because of similar problems, updated software has been programmed into the new ones. Return to the dealer, and have them scan it with the VAG 5051, it is possible that thay might replace the ECM. Either way it is under warranty. let me know what happens and i will ook into it at work tommorow.

One more thing, the VR6 engine due to its design is a "raspy"engine, i had one in the shop the other day with an after market exhaust and it sounded like a misfire, but when i looked into it, it turned out to be a natural sound of the engine. these engines will sound a little different than most any other engine i have heard

Ain't it great how cosmopolitan this board has become. We've got VW guys helping other VW guys on an S2000 forum. If only other car forum could have such a reputation!

Its the love of the S2000 that brought us here, but the love of ALL cars that keeps us together.

This has been said befor but its true, this board and its members are like a family, we watch out for one another, and help one another. I dont even own one yet and i feel like a brother.

This is what a car club is all about, not putting stickers on mommy and daddy's car and calling it a car club, like what happens all to often here in the 'burgh (pittsburgh)
