Default Please help!! Anybody have written instructions for installation of Rick's steering??

I am installing my yellow/black wheel today. Received it yesterday and it is beautifully crafted! I just noticed that there are no instructions in the box! I downloaded a photo album with pictures about the installation but I am not sure if everything is clear with regards to the process. I also checked Rick's website but found no instructions for the steering wheel.

Does anybody have any written instructions on the installation of the steering wheel?? I am kind of surprised that I didn't get any since Rick usually sends detailed instructions with his products.

Thanks.

Hey, you didn't email me

-------------Directions follow with thanks to Mack F.----------------------
S2k wheel removal

The wheel install is not difficult just time consuming. You really need the Helms manual to make sure you don't miss anything. The airbag and wheel removal are both detailed in the manual. Make sure your wheels are pointing straight ahead too, as this will help you get the wheel back on in the proper position and leave the plastic wrap on the wheel so you won't soil it or damage it during the install.

You'll need a #30 torx wrench to get the airbag off. Make sure you have the radio code, disconnect the negative cable at the battery and wait 5 min before you begin working to remove the bag. Make sure when working around the bag that you don't sit directly in front of it when your connecting or disconnecting it!
First remove the plastic covers on each side of the wheel to expose the #30 torx bolts and the airbag plug (left side).lf you have a torx that you can use in a socket this process is a bit easier as the bolts are pretty tight from the factory.
You'll need a pretty long extension to do this.

Once the bag is off you need to disconnect the plugs that actuate the cruise/horn/airbag this will be obvious when you get to it. (Page 17-7 in the Helm Manual)

At this point you need a steering wheel puller. You can pick one up at your local auto pats place. Loosen the bolt
securing the wheel to the shaft and then use the puller to remove the wheel. Follow the directions included with the puller. This is pretty straightforward.

Once you've completed the pulling process, it

Anyways, thank you for the detailed instructions - am working on the car right now. I also greatly appreciate your call - makes me realize that you guys are commited to good customer service.

I had to wait a long time for this wheel but it is truly a finely crafted piece. Thanks for the great product.

OK, I am having problems.......

with the most basic of things...............

The Airbag bolts - the first thing you have to get loose are NOT coming out!!

I am using a torque wrench with 3/8"drive and a socket that seems to fit the bolt perfectly but when I turn the wrench, bolt does not budge.

Is there any specific torque wrench / socket size that I need??

Cant really get far if I get stuck on the first step

Moneeb,

You need a bit for #30 torx bolts, not a torque wrench. There's a difference, and it's important. Havng the right bit is important. As James said, "if you have a torx bit that you can use in a socket this process is a bit easier as the bolts are pretty tight from the factory. You'll need a pretty long extension to do this. " You should be able to get this bit a Home Depot if you don't have one.

Hey that Mack F guy sounds like he knows what he's talkin' about!

Moneeb-

PM me if you need anymore input. If you havent already done so take a look at my gallery from a few months ago with some fairly detailed pics. Also you may want to go ahead and purchase a wheel puller. It's about as critical as the #30 torx...........

Good luck!

OK guys thanks - I got the torx t30 bit. I got everything done as per James instructions. Got the new wheel on - looks great!

Now one major and IRRITATING problem left.

When I start the car, SRS light stays on

I am not sure why this is happenining - I thought I had connected everything OK. Horn is working fine. I am scared of driving the car for fear of airbag deployment.

Also - I have a xerox from the Helm's manual. Apparently it says that after airbag is replaced, the memory needs to be cleared or something............ Had no idea how to do this...... could this be the reason the SRS light stays on??

Prompt assistance from ANYONE who knows what this may be about would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks. Will check this thread as soon as I am up in the morning to see if someone has chimed in.

Turn the car off... underneith where your left leg goes (clutch) there is a fuse box. The right-most column, 2nd from the top is a 7.5amp fuse. Pull it out and count to 25... Put it back in and see if the SRS light goes off.

p.s. You won't need to reset the radio or anything...
