Default Please help on a purchase...

I am trying to buy a used STOCK 2002 S2000. I had money down on a yellow S2000, but come to find out that car was....lets just say...not Stock. My next car on the list is this one:

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail...olor=&cardist=8

I have money on the car to hold it.

The carfax is clean, but we all know carfax doesn't mean "that much". Carfax is helpful but not always the true history.

I know I am "newbie" on this board (I am known on honda-tech as davidnyc), any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, how much would you pay for a bone stock 2002 with around 15K miles??

I'm sure there are more qualified opinions, but IMO low 20's would be a good deal, maybe 20-21K. Not sure of the market where you are, but that is the number I'd try to hit. I am basing this on limited info so hold out for some more opinions.

You can look up Kelly Blue Book pricing or go to Edmunds.com to get market value on the car. You can probably get a stock S2000 for little less than those prices, but expect to pay around those prices.

Whatever used S you consider check the rear tires for ware, they get used up fairly quickly, if possibe have a new set of 02's put on the car.

Thanks for the info and more is appreciated

I am finding that the initial pricing for 2002's are still in the mid-high 20's. It seems to be difficult to get a price in the low 20's.

I am going to call up some dealers and start the haggling. It is cold and snowing, maybe they will be more willing to part with a convertible at a low price

I wouldn't go with carfax on all the details.
Check his oil see how many xx's he is below when the car is cold.
And ask him when he did his last oil change.
So you would know how hard he drives his car.
Since vtec burns oil a little.
