POLL: Do you prefer the 2004 S2k with 8k Redline ===or=== 2000~2003 S2k 9k redline?
I'm in the market for a used S2k and i do not know what do choose. I like the new gauge cluster for 2004, however, i wish they kept the 9k rpm only because i never owned a car that can do 9k... HEll, even the RSX type-S does 7,800k redline..
So my question to you is this..
Which would you choose and why?
I'm leaning towards the 2.2 L 8k rpm one only because of the more "TORQUE" factor and maximum torque at lower rpms.

A high (9K) redline gives you bragging rights and its sure as hell fun to rev that high... BUT why rev that high to make power when you can do it earlier?
What do I know, I own a 2004

having owned both, i prefer the '04 hands down.
however, we had a recent track day and at a particular short chute (a short right-straight-left) on the track we were running, i ran out of revs at that spot.....i'd have to hug the redline for a few seconds and it wasn't worth upshifting just to downshift a second later....i tried it a couple of times, but it would upset the balance of the car.
i'd lose a couple of car lengths to pre-'04's in that spot, but i could pull 3-4 car lengths on them on the straights.

There will alway be faster cars on a track or on the street. Unless you have hella-money you will NEVER own the fastest car in the world. So comparisons on tracks do not really hold a lot of wieght in my book.
Had i waited until '04 to buy my car I would have been dissapointed by the 8k redline. In three years mabey Honda will be the 3L V6 out of the NSX into the S2000 (and still call in an S2000 of course ) It would be HELLA-FAST but to me a different car completely.
I am not knocking the '04 per se, it's just different enough to me to not be the classic. Sometimes thats better, but sometimes it's not. I prefer the 2.0 with 9krpms

The 9000 RPM powerplant is one of the defining characteristics of the S2000 IMHO. It is so unique, that I felt that Honda would never change the engine in any respect that would make it have a lower redline (make other improvements, but don't lower the redline...). I guess I was wrong.
I don't know, I just like the 3000 RPM's of room to play with in VTEC. I know all Honda did was stroke the F20C, but I feel that something was lost in that process...

I've driven both, own a 2004 and basically thought more torque was worth 1000 fewer revs, especially when you consider the time it takes to go from 8K to 9K is less than one second.
So, torque throughout the power band, or emotional bliss for half a second. Your call.
