That's the S2K I was referring to. Glad you finally got started on the rebuild. Let us know how it all turn out.

It really is weird at how close the damage was between the cars.

Some cars, like my Acura 3.2TL, have a weight sensor in the seat. If there is weight over a certain threshold, but under another (i.e. a child over 12 but underweight), the airbag will disable itself.

Other cars, like my lost, lamented, totaled Mitsubishi 3000GT, have no such sensor. In the frontal impact that totaled it, both the passenger and the driver airbags deployed even though I was the only one in the car, and my briefcase was in the trunk.
