hey...i have about 90 miles on my S2K...i did a rough calculation of my gas mileage and its pretty bad at about 14MPG...do the engines consume more gas when they are new? or maybe because im in NY and its cold? Also when should i start checking for consumed oil?

check on the oil around 800-900 and every 500 miles after that. That is just my suggestion.

regarding the mileage - I dont get great mileage either, but the car doesn't see much below 4K anyways. I pay for the fun.

Hmmmm....14 mpg sounds really bad.

I got 23 mpg in my 1st tank of gas when the weather was warm.
You can expect to get slightly lower mpg in colder weather but still....
I drive quite a bit in the city and still avg ~22mpg.

I would give it another tank and if it doesn't improve, perhaps a visit to a dealer is in order.

HTH.

Cold weather, city driving, and a tight engine will combine to give bad mileage. Give it some time and different conditions before you get too excited about it.

my mileage always seems to be about 18 mpg... i dont take it easy on my car- and havent taken any long road trips. by the way, i would check the oil before the vtec mark (600 miles). i didnt check until closer to 1000 and was down over a quart (could have been the joy of vtec after 600, but worth checking anyway).

I take my car almost always above 6000 rpm and fast driving. The temperature here in belgium is about 6 degrees celcius for the moment. The car needs 40 liters for 450 km.
Sorry but I don't know what this means for
MPG.

I only have 850 miles on my Stook, but the best I've ever seen is 21 mpg. I've gotten 13 as well, it is a bit dissapointing. The average I've gotten is 17.

90 miles? How did you check gas mileage only having driven 90 miles? Did you actually fill the tank all the way to the top on your very first fill up, and then refill all the way to the top on your second fill up, with the car at the same level? And how long did it take you to put on the 90 miles? Maybe some gas evaporated? 14mpg would indicate approxmiately 6.5 gallons of gas was used. Sounds like a lot to me during break in, unless you drove less than 10 miles on each outing, not giving it a chance to even warm up. Also, were there 3 bars indicated on the Temp gauge?

The only time I got better that 23 mpg... was during my 1st 2 tanks and I averaged 26! The only track time got me 13.
