Any low car with a sloped hood will have this problem. My 03 Celica had probably a dozen chips in the first year. It was wrecked (NOT my fault, btw) and repainted. When I sold it last month, there were at least a dozen chips again.

Anyone think this might also be partly caused by the increased volume of traffic? We all know how bad some of the freeways are getting (at least around here) because of the ridiculous number of cars on them. I think maybe there is just more crud to get kicked up.

And I was thinking that it was the blue that was prone to chipping. I don't feel as bad now.

Random question. I've always wondered, can you tell when white paint chips?

Only if you can detect the difference between black and white...

Strange. All the chips on my previous car were white.

black if it is chipping on the front bumper (urethane) but silver if it is chipping on the hood or fenders (metal).

Yeah how soft is your windshield... That says it all. Glass for the most part is the same from windshield to windshield and yet it still chips. Paint isn't going to be as strong as glass ever yet those glass chips still happen. Well maybe some day someone will make an indestructable paint.
exceltoexcel,

who in the world is that in your avatar!?!?!?!? I'm sure it's been asked a zillion times, but I could find it in a search.

Insanely hot.

3M clearbra all the way...
only I used Lumar.

15k+ miles and not a mark on the front of the car <knock on wood>. It's not cheap but neither are paint jobs.

As an added benefit, I've found that bug guts and tar don't stick to the clear bra nearly as well as they do to paint. It's a LOT easier to clean up!

What do clear bras run... I've heard like $500-600+?

The way I see it... in two or three years I'll probably be sick of Rio anyway. Then I'll want to settle back in with a nice pearl red. No use in spending $600 now that could go toward a nice paintjob when needed.
