Default POS stock clutch - a new weakness?

on the way home tonight, got off the highway (~20mi of driving) for the 2mi of stop light traffic before I arrive at my house. Had to stop at the first light after the exit, ended up next to a motorcycle (955cc Triumph - thought it was a Kawasaki with those rakish lines!). Anyway, light turns green, I do a normal launch (no clutch drop) and the motorcycle takes off fairly easy but then gets on it. So, of course, I redline it in first but when I shift to second, the revs don't drop and I get that smell. I probably should have let off it right then and there, but I go ahead and shift thru the gears to 5th - same thing, almost no rev drop every shift and "oooohhh that smell". Sounds like people have had slippage when trying to do high rev launches without dropping the clutch, but I have never seen anyone post of the clutch slipping during shifting while accelerating hard.

Is this another sign that the stock clutch can't hack it? It seems fine otherwise, and this is the first time this has happened. I have just under 8K miles on the car and have had the SC for about 5500 of those miles. I have probably done 5-6 high rev (6K) clutch drops in that time, which doesn't seem unreasonable.

Seriously though, I think there have been a few of us that have experienced clutch problems. In your case, it seems that the already weak clutch is just not up to dealing with the increased power of the S/C.

Has it driven ok since???

The clutch is the 1st item to go in any Honda w/ Forced Induction.

I think I know what you are talking about, It has happened to both of my S2000's. It's as if you drop the hammer, then shift to second, nothing, shift to 3rd nothing... etc... Your doing 15 mph in 3rd gear bouncing or the rev limiter. My S2K's did this when they were both new under 2K miles. Have not seen it since. My 2st S2000 has as strong of a clutch as you can get, never had a problem with it. My 2nd one was replaced with the new Honda fix at 1K miles but it did this then to. Have not had a problem since.

I have, reported it more than once on the first clutch. Especially with hard driving in hilly terrain. The design compromises made for the 9K redline are numerous.

Nope. Just did a normal low rev start and after I got going (clutch fully engaged), stomped the gas and did some hard acceleration shifting. It was actually pretty weird - I never got below about 8500 rpm from 2nd to 5th, but didn't get any significant acceleration from shifting gears, just sort of moved along at a mildly (very mildly) increasing rate. I don't think I got above 50 or 60 mph and most of my acceleration came from going to redline in 1st.

12,000 + miles on the original clutch and no problems what so ever.

The clutch can no handle boost!

Really, most FI Hondas need new clutches shortly after the mod. Get an ACT.
