I just got my baby back after 8 days at my dealer (Jeffrey Honda in Roseville, Michigan), and it couldn't have gone better. When I initially took it in, and mentioned the 1-2 grind and the clutch noise as issues, their response was a worrisome "leave it, and we'll have a look".

Within a couple of hours, they had called back, seemed very knowledgeable about the problem with other S2K's, and said that while they couldn't re-create the 1-2 grind, they'd just go ahead and fix everything. After 8 days with a free loaner, free gas, and offers of upgrades or anything else to keep me happy, job was done, and the work seems perfect.

I know someone had mentioned that after a similar repair, their dealer had forgotten to re-align the steering, and another person complained of new rear end noise. In my case, the steering's fine, and there are no new noises.

I will say that the new clutch IS a little noisy in general, as the dealer (and the service bulletin) warned it would be compared to a brand new old-style clutch, but it's much less noisy than the one with 17,000 miles which they removed. Incidentally, they never brought up "driver abuse" or "normal wear-and-tear" as excuses to not replace the clutch parts. Similarly, the 1-2 grind, which I'd get every 60 or 80 shifts, seemes to have disappeared.

I know others have had rotten experiences getting this issue resolved, so I thought I'd share my story. Apparently, not EVERY dealer is an asshole.

I got the seatbelt recall and noisy clutch TSB done at Oxnard (CA) Honda. Also a good experience.

Well. . .this is very GOOD news! I took my S2000 in a week ago and complained of the 1-2 grind for the 3rd time. I asked to drive with a technician.

Luckily, I was able to get the car to reproduce the grind. . .not once, but twice! This was enough to have them order the parts and start the work next week!

60 to 80 shifts. . .mine was about every 20 or so! Really bad! I hope everything goes well with it!

I'll let you guys know the outcome! Thanks for posting yours! Because of this site, I was able to print out similar stories and eventually. . .I was able to convince the dealer there is a problem!

I had the grind fix, the clutch disk update and a practically replaced differential in the past week. $4,000 cost to honda that would have cost about 7,000 out of warranty.

So far I have only driven about 20 miles and the car is much quieter and smoother. Before these fixes I really had no complaints, other then minor clutch rattle on decel (tsb 0054) but thought I should have updated parts (tsb 0055).
When in for the fix the dealer discovered the rear end problems metal in the fluid)I did not even know about. I think there must have been some abuse of my car before I took delivery. Service manager asked about abuse.

Anyway.. somehow it seemed faster when it was louder but I think that was just a matter of perception. The clutch and rear end are definately much quieter. The gears are just as smooth as before perhaps a bit better. The clutch seems just as grippy. Overall, I am very happy with the experience. Neil Honda in Hempstead, NY is topps.
