Possible future owner of an s2k

i was in the same situation but am a year or 2 ahead of you. I got my S this summer and am planning on taking it down to school at Southern il univ. I feel college is the best time to have an impractical car you can have fun in.
The first thing you need to decide is if you want FWD or RWD. that will narrow down your choices. Coming from a civic, i knew i wanted a rwd. I test drove the 350z and the S and decided on the S that day.
Since you have a celica for winter, i would buy a rwd car for summer, as its a completely different experience.

I was in the same boat you are, and considered all the cars you mentioned (except a Prelude)....got the S for $24.5 practically brand new and don't regret it for a second

If you decide on Cal Poly SLO, having an s2000 is just fine. I parked mine on the lots everyday and I didn't get a single door ding. But the one time I decided to park in a structure and in the corner, a truck hit my side mirror with its door!
Contrary to what most people say, the S isn't that bad of a daily. I drive it over 300 miles a week and I enjoy every single moment of it. The trunk is plenty room to put a laundry bag in and you won't get stuck being the DD while partying.
If you do end up choosing SLO, you'll probably see my car on campus.

But really, driving itself is dangerous as there are just some unavoidable things like drunk drivers which can determine if you live or die in an instant. Granted, driving the s2k just increases these chances, but I believe that by following the rules of the road and taking extra safety precautions, I'll be fine.
Anyways, I've asked the bay area forum what other cars I should perhaps look into besides the ones I've listed. It's not like I need more space or seats, but it seems many people are against having the s2k as a college car, because it is not a daily driver. It's not like I won't meet any friends in college who can lend me a hand if I need to move something, right? Any college students or prior college students care to chime in?

I just picked up an S for my last year at Purdue. No regrets yet, I'm in love with the car and feel like its worth every penny. College is the time for an S, but i'm not so sure you need one yet for freshman year, I'd wait til you're a sophomore at least. Gives you some time to save up and maybe get an AP2.

Honestly, you'll have the best chance of knowing whether or not you can deal without the added hauling capacity.

for college I would get a beater civic or 4cyl accord. You are going to probably be parking on the street or in parking garages...your car WILL get dinged up from idiots...
