I drive my S2K to college everyday, and nobody has even touched it. There have been occasional google-eyed people, who just stand and stare at the car as if they've never seen a $35K sports car before, but I don't mind them looking. If you're really afraid that your car might get broken into, just check around your school. Are there other, more expensive cars in the parking lot? Around the time I go to college (6:30 PM), there are at least 3 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo's, a bunch of 335i's, 2 or 3 WRX STi's, and countless Mercedes-Benz's. There is a professor who drives a Z06 and parks it in the student parking lot. I'm sure with all these other expensive, yet less attractive cars in the same parking lot as my S2K, nobody will break into my car.
I drove my S2000 almost everyday in the last 4 months of high school, and nobody ever damaged it. Well, then again, I parked it aaaaaaaalllllllllllll the way in the end of the parking lot, where nobody else parked, so it was in clear view of everyone, including the campus security, so I'm sure nobody had the courage to do anything to it; however, I do recall once some black kids began jumping on the bumper of my car afterschool and I ran over to them, began yelling at them, they began saying racial sh*t, the school's police officer came over and spoke to them, then he let them leave w/out even a warning.

If you're talking about UC Riverside, don't get the s2k, too much attention. I always see a broken-into car every single quarter.
Really? I was planning on going there after RCC... I guess I could drive my Camry there, but the Camry has 20" rims, a sound system, and tinted windows, so it's bound to get attention... Mmm... Now I'm sort of in a predicament.
dude I have a 350z and trust me they starting to get common that its not even funny. I saw two just driving to walmart and my walmart is down the street not even 3 minutes away. Im going to sell mine and get a S2000. The Z is great and all but you just dont feel special anymore, and I go to High School to and nobody ever ####ed with my car, I also parked it in the way back.

As long as you stay in a gated apartment, or garage, it should be fine. but then again, I've seen a few freshmen with Range Rovers and IS-F's.

If you decide on Cal Poly SLO, having an s2000 is just fine. I parked mine on the lots everyday and I didn't get a single door ding. But the one time I decided to park in a structure and in the corner, a truck hit my side mirror with its door!
Contrary to what most people say, the S isn't that bad of a daily. I drive it over 300 miles a week and I enjoy every single moment of it. The trunk is plenty room to put a laundry bag in and you won't get stuck being the DD while partying.
If you do end up choosing SLO, you'll probably see my car on campus.
Haha that's the Cal Poly parking lot? Are you on ccmw.cc ?
I went there and graduated last year so I know live in San Francisco.
To the original poster: You should set the S2k as a reward for getting into a good college. Get in first, then congratulate yourself with a car. Why not wait and see what your future plan is first?
You forgot one other Honda, The Acura Integra Type-R
After 9 months of owning an S2000, I got a daily driver; a 1994 Acura Integra LS. My original intention was to turn it into a autocross car, but it was in such good condition, I decided to turn it into a daily driver. On moving days, it is great.

That's a scary sight! Luckily my high school is majority asian.. and we don't have that many punks.
Hansai, that's what my parents have been telling me, but it doesn't hurt to look for cars in advance right? In case I don't get into the colleges I'm applying to, my backup plan will be the community college to UC Berkeley transfer but I highly doubt I will be going down that path.
I don't know about where you live, but in the bay area, integras are stolen or broken into daily, especially any type r's or gsr's. Plus, I don't know how much the insurance would cost but I'm sure it'll be a lot. Then again, I'd probably only get liability on it so maybe...

"That's right, get into school first! Get your head straight, quit daydreaming about cars and focus on school!" <--typical asian parents
If you have any questions about Cal Poly SLO, let me know. I graduated with a computer science degree. I hear it's harder than ever to get in, and they lowered the already low acceptance rate.
Be careful with a car like that in San Luis Obispo. I have lived there for about 3.5 years, recent grad from Cal Poly. I do not have experience with parking on campus (walked to school), but you NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL PARKING NEAR FRAT HOUSES OR STUDENT HOUSING ON AND OFF CAMPUS. I can guarantee you that no one will steal anything but the AMOUNT OF VANDALISM IS INSANE. I live pretty close to campus.
Here is a list of things that have happened to my car or girlfriends car (keep in mind I do not have enemies nor does my girlfriend, and such events have happened in multiple places):
Sentra SER Specv (my car... trading this for s2k soon)
My car was keyed along truck.
Keyed on driver door (separate occasion)
I had a car cover... someone would rip it off my car and throw on the ground everyday until I finally gave up putting my cover on the 11th or 12th time it happend.
Saturn (my girlfriends car)
Passenger minor was kicked off so that is was dangling
The next day someone ripped it off completely
Someone walked over here car from truck to hood, denting in hood and roof of here car. There were foot prints all over it.
A few key scratches here and there
Other peoples cars
#1
I went for a run, went down the street my girlfriend parked when her mirror was ripped off. There were a total of 20 cars all either missing their passenger side mirror or it was daggling. I think someone was just running down the street with a baseball bat.
#2
There is a particular frat house that I swear that 50% of the cars rear window is broken and it is always happening to new cars that part there.
The weird thing is there is a incredibly low amount of theft. People leave windows down all the time with ipods and stuff in plain sight and never get stolen. There are just too many drunk idiots that like to screw with cars when they drink too much.
That set aside Cal Poly is great. One of the best schools around for architecture, engineering, business (accounting primarily) and a few others. It blows most UC's out of the water for a fraction of the cost. The town is great too, always nice weather usually between 60 degrees and 80 degrees year round (I go to the beach in December!!!), Surrounded by beaches within 10 mins away, GREAT food everywhere(mostly mom and pop shops) I would be willing to drive from San Jose (3hrs) just for a couple of meals, great parties fun bar scene, NO TRAFFIC ever.

Hmm that's what I was scared of.. How far do you have to be from the campus to avoid stuff like that? The amount of auto theft was indeed very low considering how many people live there so I thought vandalism would be pretty low too.
Anyways, that is just a little drawback imo because I'm sure many colleges are like that. I've never been that much of a high achiever so a straight acceptance as freshman to something like UC Berkeley would be out of the question. Overall GPA 3.5 without any honors or AP classes; 2000 on the SAT reasoning (640 reading, 670 math, 690 writing). I've heard that my chances are a little above average?
My cousin said it's pretty quiet and farm-like over there (boring)? But if you live in San Jose and you're willing to go over there that must say something about the city
Hansai, I will be majoring in either computer engineering or computer science. To be honest, I don't know exactly what jobs each leads to, so maybe you could shed a little insight? I'm kind of interested in computer hardware itself as well as developing software.
