In Wyoming, I'm required to have a front license plate. The law just says it has to be "visible from the front of the vehicle." I know that people do get cited for not displaying the front plate.

I LOVE how clean the front of the S2K looks without the front plate. When I took delivery 21 days ago, I had the dealer not mount the plate holder. My temporary plate (good for another 3 weeks) is rear only.

I've been trying to figure out a work-around. Two days ago I ordered a device intended to use suction cups to mount a dealer license plate inside the rear window. It costs $12.50 or $18.10 with shipping. I think it will work okay for mounting the front plate inside the front windshield upper right. I'll let you know when I get it.

Here's a link to the site I used to order it.

Some of us just ignore the requirement and take the risk. I've driven several cars without the front plates, both in Maryland and New York, and have never been cited, even when stopped for speeding a few times. Maybe I've just been lucky.

IMO Barry, mounting the plate in the front windshield will not be very attractive either. Why don't you try driving without the plate for a while and see what happens? If you get cited, you can always put it back on. But if Wyoming is like most other states, it's not a violation that will add points to your record, so I think it's worth the small gamble.

I've recently talked to one of the cops that hangs out at my station, and he told me that he always pulls people over for "no front plate" and gives them a $70 dollar ticket. I will heed that warning.
No matter how ugly,,, 70 bucks a pop adds up.

I mounted the license plate in the front window after getting a warning ticket. It doesn't look <too> bad, and I don't notice it when driving. Be prepared to use some padded tape on strategic spots to prevent rattling. You really only need two suction cups for the top and some padding.

New Jersey requires a front plate..I choose to drive without one although this is a recreational vehicle for me and not a daily driver. I figure if pulled over for no front plate I will tell the officer I have one on order that the other one was damaged in a parking lot incident.

Would it be practical (and not inhibit air flow too much) to relocate the plate inside the air intake (using a special bracket)?

The British had (have?) a neat solution - pictures of old roadsters show a decal they mounted flush on the bodywork at the nose.

Intake mounts often block too much airflow unless they are spring mounted so they lay down when the car moves forward. I learned that on an early Miata.

I would think above all, there is a safety issue with mounting a plate in the window. In the event of an accident, someone in the cabin can get seriously hurt with a metal plate flying around!

I know that a bracket could be made to attache the plate behind the grille, and at an angle. I already mocked it up, and was going to do it with zip-ties.

It would be visible, and have a negligible effect on airflow. It would redirect airflow, but at say 45 degrees, it should not materially impact it.

And.. while tough to see, it would be 'Visible'.

My problem is that I've been driving it without the plate for a year, and nary a notice from Mr. Blue, so it's hard to get motivated. After my first ticket, I'll surely get to work.

I never realized that som many people disliked the front plate. I have a personalized plate on the front of my S2000 and I've never thought it looked bad. I work for Sprint PCS as a Retail Manager and on my front plate, I have the "RED Sprint Diamond" (it is a reflective vinyl, similar to a STOP sign's). My car being Black with Red, theplate sets the car apart!

Again, just me thinking out loud!
