I only have 18k miles on my S2000 and I've noticed when going from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd gear catches a little bit. It doesn't full on "grind", but it doesn't slip into place without catching a little bit either. The tricky part here is that this doesn't seem to happen at higher RPM's, but only when I'm doing just casual driving around 3k - 4k RPM shifting. Could this be a bad syncro, or am I just still not used to this car?

 

have you changed out your tranny oil yet? check the clutch fluid also. try this first.

I have had good results with red line mt-90 in the tranny, for a smoother shifting tranny, allthough its a little thick for winter use, but so much better than the honda oil it came with. good luck. IMHO

 

The famous and very common second to third "notch". I use the GM friction modified tranny oil and overall my tranny is smoother, but the notch is still there a bit untill it has a chance to really get warm.

Same for me and I am running GMSFM, it also did it with the Honda MTF. Not a full grind, just a little notch feeling on the way in. I think shifting at higher RPMs smoothes things out a little and this is just the way the tranny is designed.

 

Well, it's definitely always good to hear other people have the same symptoms! I just never know what is to be expected and what is bad when getting a new car... Every car has it's little quirks.
