Default Grinding when going to 3rd gear

We recently purchased a 2000 S2000 with 10,800 miles on it, beautifully maintained, and didn't notice this when test driving the car, but when shifting from 2nd to 3rd in normal everyday driving mode, it very often seems to "clip" the gear, as if the synchronizers were bad. This occassionally happens from 1st to 2nd as well but it's mostly when going into third. The clutch pedal seems to grab right where it should, so we're thinking tranny/synchro problems. The previous owner is a retired fire chief and doesn't appear to be one that would abuse the car. Anyone else have problems like this? Otherwise...we LOVE the car!

The 'knochyness' of the 2 - 3 shift is a common complaint. It seems to smooth out with time (number of shifts) and will probably be aided with a fluid change. Does not sound out of the ordinary to me.

I think its normal. my 2003 with 1800miles on it does this also. not a grind, just a little resisting tap into third. think others are the same way. think you're ok!

My 2001, now with 11,000 miles, has done this since Day One. The good news is that the notchiness has never gotten any worse. Basically a great tranny.
