Default Powdercoating exhaust?

I am planning on having an aftermarket exhaust installed. I am trying to have a more inconspicuous look by having the muffler section powdercoated black. I've been pulled over in the past for an aftermarket exhaust with silencers in. Not from the noise, just from the fact it wasn't stock. I'd like to avoid that problem in the future.

Anyone ever considered or tried this? I am not sure how hot powdercoated surfaces can get.

Where do you live? That's crazy that you would get pulled over merely for having an aftermarket exhaust, especially if it wasn't for the noise.

Not cool!

As for how hot the surfaces can get, it depends on the coating used, but they can get pretty darn hot. Someone else will probably know a lot more about it than I do.

Good luck.

I live in northern VA. I've lived in many other places, but this is the only one I've been ticketed just for changing the exhaust.

I just got my HKS refinished in Flat Black Hi-Temp PC. All of it except the canisters.

I think you'll have a hard time getting PC to still to any polished surface. You'll certainly have to scuff it up real good.

Thanks, I was planning on only having the canisters done in black. They are smooth, but not polished. How hot a temp can the paint you used get to without being destroyed?

on my old car.. i used Flat Black Hi-Temp on just the muffler. it works pretty gewd.. powdercoating seems to be a bit much when u can just spray paint it.. pc might stand out more than a flat black spray paint

Use a high-temp spray paint, Walmart or your local parts store will have plenty to choose from.

If u wanted to pay the $$ you could have the whole system jet hot coated. (I think they do a flat black coating). It would cut down on heat as well.
