Default Powdercoating questions

I am interested in powdercoating a set of MY03 wheels gunmetal but I have a few questions.

How long does powdercoating usually take if I go to a local shop?

Do I need to remove the tires or can they just tape them off and go about their business?

Whats the general pricing per rim?

Basically, do I need to leave my car on blocks in my garage for a few days because my wheels are being done or will it be done in a few hours...?

Thanks.

1) It shouldn't take more than a couple of days. A lot of powcercoating shops paint certain colors in 'bulk', meaning they willl spray whites for a couple of days, then darker colors on other days. Your best bet would be to try and drop off your rims on a day when you know they will be doing dark colors. There would be less turn-around time.

2) You will need to remove the tires if the shop doesn't already have a machine to do so. My advice would be to find a shop that can take off the tires for you and then re-install the tires when done. This way, if you have any problems with the finished product when trying to re-mount your tires, it will be their responsibilty and not something where they would say 'the other shop' scratched your new paint.

3) My car is in my garage on blocks right now because my wheels are being powdercoated. I dropped them off 4 days ago and have not yet got them back because of color matching issues.

4) Persoanlly, I would put the car on blocks and not 'rush' the shop.

I just dropped mine off as well and the price was $65/wheel with clearcoat. I have mine sitting on my old prelude rims. It must suck having your ride on blocks!!

Thanks for the info Snoop. Is clearcoat recommended or what? I want a semi-flat black look, basically between gunmetal and flat black (silverstone S).
