Aren't autocrosses raced in parking lots? Limiting the sizes to smallish courses? I would think the GT3s would be out of their element on tiny courses that negate the porsche's 4sec 0-60mph times and emphasize the miata's light wieght. It is often bringing the right tool for the job.
911 GT3s are excellent autocross cars - a 2005 GT3 won the Super Stock national championship, battling against Elises and Z06s.

I agree the driver's experience enabled him to pressure the porsches.

The last autocross I saw was dominated by an old mini (not the new versions) with no interior or exhaust, and small 12" wheels that stuck way out past the fenders. It wouldn't matter who you put in a GT3. They wouldn't have a chance.

The OP's video on youtube had links to some more of the guys runs as he films evo's and subarus. Seems the evo's didn't do any better than the porsches.
Alejo pretty well hit the nail on the head.

Our SCCA and PCA autocrosses rarely exceed 60 MPH, but the PCA courses always have the tightest tight sections, and usually include at least one pivot cone. A good driver could burn up these courses in a GT3, but they are indeed very powerful cars and getting the most out of them on the tight courses takes some skills that might fairly be called specialized. They wouldn't do any better in my car or one of the modified Miata's. Hahaha, in my car they might try to nail the throttle when the tail starts to slide, and while that works with their cars, it would get them in trouble in the S2000.

Supercharged Miata's make great modified class autocross cars, but when they're built to the hilt they can be as much of a handful as an S2000.

One of the guys who runs a GT3 also has a track only full race Mini (the real thing, not one of the new wannabee's, with the works, including a nice crashbox), and a track only 914-4. Both his race cars run on racing rubber, but he can't beat me or the CCR Miata's no matter which car he brings to the event. He can't even get close. Based on my experience I'd have to say that his driving skills were about average among Porsche owners ... Don't really have a clue whether the average S2000 owner is more or less skilled, but average is just average. The only other S2000 that runs in our region is driven by a guy who seems to be a natural, and is not easy to beat.

You run into the same thing whether it's autocrossing or club racing. Most guys are happy if they can run in the middle of the pack, and only a few consistently run up front and win. Drivers are at least as variable as the cars they drive.

Man i really like how wide open that track is, it seems like a good place for a noob tracker to start at.

Good driver is the difference. We are not talking about straight line drag gayness...... On a road corse drivers skill is mostly what matters.

the power of a good driver behind any car really.

I remember one track day at the Sepang F1 circuit where I consistently matched the lap times of a pair of carbon clad Evo & STi's in a FF car with less than half the hp .

The dude in the Evo got better this year though, now I can't keep up with him (as it should be ahahaha)

edit: come to think about it, its the red evo in my signature next to the CTR.

i enjoy watching the GT3 walk away from the S as if it's standing still. clearly we know which car is better... but, the s2k is a lot of fun at the track and it is good fun to push lesser drivers in better cars. no matter, the s2k driving looked good (nice control over the curbs...)

Honestly, the driver in the Porsche was quite bad. The GT3 is a great car and would walk away from the S if it had a better driver.

Anyway, nice vid!!!!!
