Default Pre Purchase Inspection Question

Im going to be meeting with a private seller selling his 07 gpw...im planning on taking the car to a local honda dealership to do a pre purchase inspection. can you guys chime in on whats included in that inspection? the owner is claiming that he took it 2 months back and has the paperwork from honda.

considering its pretty recent should i consider taking it again before agreeing to buy/ or making an offer? is there a diagnostic ran on the car engine? how long does it take? do you need to make an appointment?

guy is asking: $22,900 mileage is at 69k exterior and interior looks like it has normal wear but its in good condition from what i can see in pictures, soft top is in good condition too, no tears of any kind or premature wear when moving the top up and down...will post pictures later to help you guys see what im working with.

the seller also is the first owner, and it has a clean carfax...kbb and nada guide and edmunds all have lower private party prices...even in excellent condition.

what would you think is a fair offer to make?

I almost bought an s2k long distance and all the dealer did was do a regular check of the fluids, battery, tires and how it ran, I believe. I didn't buy it though.

Anyway, that price seems too high for me. I got an 06 NFR with 14k on it that didn't look like it had ever seen rain for 21.5 and that was from a dealer. GPW mark up?

Definitely a bit high. I would offer no more than the KBB or NADA private party price for that year and mileage.

Same answer as always: refer to the guides and comps. Pricing can vary by location, time of year, etc.

Pre-Purchase at my dealership was everything you could imagine.

Inspected motor mounts, VIN numbers, CV shafts, etc and gave me a full report of issues. Ended up having a swapped out motor that was installed incorrectly and saved me from a $7000 mistake.

The thing with KBB or Nada is that it doesn't base price on demand. Where I am located you can offer KBB for an S and people will laugh at you. The demand for them is just too high.

Hopefully they do a compression test whichever dealership you bring it to, even if its extra thats the main test I would do.

Check for previous modifications/signs of bodywork done mismatched paint and such on your own if you can.

I would be really careful with the dealership that does the pre inspection, make sure they do a really good thorough inspection. This guy had his inspection done at a dealership too, which I'm sure their not equipped to deal with modified/turbo'd cars but still https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/936...from-portland/, if you can get one like themuffinman had or even more that would be great.

good luck!
