I have heard through the grapevine (we all know that this is not always the most reliable source, but nevertheless it makes sense) that the Prelude will be replaced with an S2000 Coupe! It would be nice to see if this comes to be! What are your thoughts?

I've heard that the Prelude and the Accord coupe are going to merge into the same thing...but who knows what will really happen?

Actuall, I've heard that it is combining soon with the all new 2002 Integra. Funny, Integra would mean front driver, but S2000 coupe would mean rear wheel drive. let's hope for the latter!

Don't hold your breath on the '02 Prelude being derived from the S2000. From everything I've read, the most probable outcome will be that the Prelude line disappears with the introduction of the new Integra in '02 -- and for those wanting a larger coupe Honda might put a 5speed manual tranny in the V6 Accord Coupe. The main reason they never put a manual tranny in that car before was because they were worried it would take away from Prelude sales, but if the Prelude is gone then that opens the door.

I believe someone at Honda said that S2000 unibody didn't lend itself to work well for creating new models on that same platform. If you ever looked at the car closely you'd see this is indeed true. To make a "4" seater coupe (and I'm talking about a small Prelude-sized back seat) out of the S2000 platform you'd have to lengthen it consideribly to the point that it wouldn't make sense -- that's why I highly doubt we'll see a coupe based on the S2000.

What about a two seat coupe with a larger trunk/hatchback area like the old 300ZX?

How many two-seater coupes can you name that are currently still produced (for the US market)? The market is obviously very small and probably not very profitable else every manufacturer would be making them (like SUVs). Like I said, don't hold your breath...

You're right. RX7 is gone, Z is gone, but Z06 is alive and well.
