Premature Wear on surface of Console Trim
As I approach the end of the warranty period for my 2000 S2k, I would like to fix the discolored trim piece surrounding the shifter - has any anyone asked Honda for a replacement?
Does anyone know if the trim pieces on the redesigned consoles in later models resist this wear better?

There are threads on this subject. There is one solution that cost almost nothing and takes about 20 min. You can remove the coating without removing the trim ring, by using a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. The underlying surface is polished silver. It looks good and is less pervious to scratching. Good Luck.
I had my center console replaced under warranty because of the peeling of the layer on the trim around the shift boot area. If I were you, I'd try to get it covered under warranty before removing the paint/plastic covering on the trim. In my opinion it looks better with it fixed like new than have it all shiny and out of place.

What year are the cars that you are doing this to? I have a 2002 and tried it and I never saw any sort of silver come through...Either I did not rub hard enough or the alcohol I was using was not strong enough...Or maybe it is just not shiny on the '02 models...Anyone tried this on a 2002 yet?
Very possible that the differing years are made differently. However, for what its worth I *will* say that when I first attempted to remove the coating on my '01 trim piece I found it to be a mo-fo. I used 2 different "strengths" of rubbing alcohol...and the same paper towels as well as various cotton rags... Grr...near nothing was being removed.
Stepped up to a brillo (steel wool) pad and the rubbing alcohol -- came off mucho pronto!
And it did not marr the underlying finish of the "chrome" plastic. I too like the look (especially over the scratches from my bracelet over the last year).
