Wear on the trim in a 9-year old car is "premature?"

I guess it was "premature" 7 years ago.

hey sometimes 7 year old threads are the most helpful just not informative enough. which is why they are pushed right back to the front of the line! lol! good to know that a lot of people have learned a lot more about these cars since they first started manufacturing them!

Do you have any photos? I pulled it off but it is a little confusing.

^You gotta unscrew the cupholder and coin holder thing. Then you have to cut off a couple of plastic welds on it with a dremel or something. Then you can with a screw driver or something push the tabs so that you can pry the shifter surround piece off. Takes a little while and kind of annoying prying it from those tabs.
I don't have any pictures though. Once it's removed I found it pretty self explanatory.

I have a 2001 and had the same issue. I followed the S2k site alcohol instructions at the time and it came out perfect. With a little elbow grease. I did use a cotton cloth and not paper towels and the cloth had enough of a rough surface to get it all.

I just used standard store bought denatured rubbing alcohol. Maybe the "rubbing" in the title is the key, huh?

Anyway with 62k+ and 5 years later it still looks perfect.

I did mine and looked nice at first but quickly got cracks in it and then started chipping unfortunately. Loved the look though. Was polished but reflected the black of the interior so looked kind of dark sometimes too.

brave enough? Don't need to be brave to do. Super cheap part your doing it to anyways so no worries if you don't like it. AP1 center consoles are next to nothing in the used market.
