It grinds, I did it on accident when I first got the car. Went to push a radio button and my hand hit it.

I doubt it hurts anything if you don't do it often and don't hold the button down and let it grind forever.

yea right, i press mine all the time when i go on long road trips. nothing happens at all. go head give it a lil push. if it does grind, then you have a problem with your wiring

- as long as you dont touch the clutch. the clutch has a switch that prevents the starter circuit from operating.

Actually, the clutch has a switch that allows the starter circuit to operate only when the clutch is depressed. That's why you have to depress the clutch to start the car and that's why pushing the button with the clutch depressed and the car on causes grinding. HPH

I guess the starter will grind if you do that to a non-North American S2000, since they don't need to depress the clutch to start the car

Is that true, Ks? Non-AHM Ss don't have the interlock? I find that a bit surprising.

I did this on the first S2000 I test drove, thinking that "Engine Start" was also "Engine Stop". Starter grind -- never do that again.

^ Yes, that's right. I did read that it was a toggle switch on one of the new cars that's got one. In my recollection though, a start button in sports cars has always been to engage the starter, not kill the ignition.

I was amazed when I learned about that fact as well. I only knew about it because a few years ago, a friend of mine from UK was having trouble starting my previous car. He said my starter was dead, which scared me to death. Then, I told him to step on the clutch when I noticed he didn't do that. He looked at me and asked if that's a anti-theft setup

Anyway, this is the post about the clutchless start that I saw before: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=374689

Without clutch depressed, the Start button doesn't do anything. Just like turning the key to "Start" position on any other car without clutch depressed.

In fact, it's a secret feature for other Honda cars in Canada with DRL which is activated by releasing e-brake. Even if you pull back e-brake, DRL stays on until you turn off the ignition. In some occasions where you want to turn off DRL while keeping the engine running, turn the key to "Start" without depressing the clutch. DRL will turn off.

Now that you guys bring up the topic about European cars don't need to depress clutch to start, I'm curious if any of you Europeans has ever pressed the Start button outside the car while it's in 1st gear? What would it do?
