Preventing holes in soft top - my solution
Honda also sells a "patch kit", which is only a square of the roof material in a bag with no instructions. I got one and cut a round patch for the inside to prevent the bar from wearing all the way through. I used all weather silicone glue and it seems to stick pretty well so far. For now only passenger side needs it, but may do other side this summer as prevention.
GTI, that is indeed the wear spot.
My only concern about this mod is that it adds thickness to the area that gets sliced. Is that applying more force to it?
Nice post... Would like to know how it's going.

Guys,
instead of patching the softtop, wrap the portion of the metal bar that cuts in thru the soft top. I wrapped mine with sailor's sail patch tape which works wonders without adding more force to be applied to the soft top. One layer of the tape is all you need and does not affect anything else in any way. Try it.

i found another place wear can happen...i placed a large blanket in the try under the top to help with sound...it helped...and for some reason after about a year i started to notice wearing on the top of the top where it folds...aparently the top did not go all the way down and the top rubbed against itself...so...lesson learned...do not put anything in that tray under the top....the wear marks are shinny places at the folds on the top of the top...caught it in time, no holes.
claq, I think I will try the sail tape method. The other thing is that the springs which are supposed to pull that rail forward don't have enough force when the top is a little stiff from colder temps. I just move it by hand, but even so, the tear is continuing to appear.
