What I did was to glue small patches of outdoor fabric onto every spot that that was being worn (even a little bit)

And when I have the top down for a long time, I put two microfiber cloths between the folds (outside part of the roof), to stop those shiny, smooth rub marks you get on the outside.

Seems to be working so far.

Clag,

What I meant was, do the two bars cause rubbing issues as well? I ask because the way my patches are glued, they are exactly between the two bars, they end undearnth the bar . . . meaning you can't see them sticking out the other side of the bar the way yours does. This still seems to provide plenty of room for the "elbow" to rub into the patch and not the top . . . what I meant was do I need to worry about the bars themselves (the two things that the elbow is in between) rubbing the top as well? I think since my patches end underneath the bars, they are technically touching the top.
It sounds like you are in good shape to me. I don't think the bars are an issue at all, no sharp edges to speak of. I would just keep an eye on the edges of your patches to make sure the bars don't start to curl them back, otherwise I would say forget about it and enjoy. I stayed away from the patches just because I didn't want to worry about any glue reacting with the top or becoming brittle over time. This was quick, cheap, and easy, it will also come out in 30 seconds if I ever sell the car. Aesthetically, I guess it is a matter of opinion as to what looks worse, rubber strips or patches, (I would like to see a pic, patches are probably less noticeable).

there is a strechy strap that runs from one of the bars (front to rear) to the next bar behind it toward the rear of the car. Mine have lost their stretchyness and would crack and break if I pulled on them. No I have not searched for this, because I don't know what to call it. anybody else have this problem and maybe a solution? It seems the rivets holding it onto the bar are hard to reach? Any help ?

If your talking about the strap right above your head, modifry sells one for $15 and its not that bad to isntall, you don't take the rivets out. I'm pretty sure this is the strap you are refering to by your description.

There is also a similiar (but longer) strap that goes down to the back of the car towards the trunk, I don't think anyone (but maybe Honda) sells this strap, but I've been told that one is not as important.

i just ordered one from modifry. I think it helps the top fit down a little snugger when down. just go over to his website and check it out. Its supposed to be cheaper/better than OEM and you can install it much more easily. ill let you know after i get it.

Edit: oh...nvm already answered
