All of these threads and the TSB have left me a bit confused about top wear and hole issues. I am not sure if it affects all model years or only some. Also, I am unsure about how to carry out the various suggestions for fixing it. For example, is it possible to sand or grind sharp or rough areas on the frame with the top attached to the frame or does it have to be removed? Same question about re-painting the area you grind down. Also, there are various fixes involving wrapping the offending bar with various things but its not clear what the outcome has been for people with that solution. I'll go out today and take a close look at my top and see how it is.

My 2006 had wear but no tears inside from the frame rubbing. I smoothed the offending parts and put wear panels in the ceiling. Despite all this the wear has now produced an1/2" tear thru the fabric that I'm currently seeking repair methods.

Externally a patch of black GoreTex material is sealing the hole but I'm still seeking interior fixes to keep the hole from expanding.

I "abuse" the roof with multiple down/up cycles every day I drive it.

EDIT - actually the tsb I found is incomplete - only has page 1 of 3 pages. I did see it posted somewhere but it was to small to read. I'll PM you.

PM replied. Once you identify the correct pivots, just feel them carefully with your fingers. You will quickly know if they need the filing remedy. Mine were like jagged razors!

I'm noticing a bit of wear on mine where my head would be. Also on the passenger side. No tear, but a bit of wearing. I just ordered the strap from modifry even though my stock one still has some elasticity.

I'm also going to make a patch using e6000 and cordura or a similar ballistic nylon. That seems to be one of the more higly reviewed solutions.

Yeah, I'm a little confused. Were the modifry parts trash?

No. The straps that were in on the car were trash. The Modifry straps are great.

The sentence should have read "the straps ON the one I just purchased were trash". Sorry for the confusion.

In addition to some of these fixes, I had patches professionally applied to the inside of the top at the typical trouble spots. Only cost $60 and well worth it if you can find a good soft top or upholstery guy.
