Default Pricing on a used '05

Hi people, I'm relatively new here. So far it's been a lot of good reads

I've been looking for a used S2000 for about a week or so. And they seem to disappear pretty fast!

Anyway, there is one that I might end up buying if everything works out. It's an '05 yellow with < 6,000 (!) miles for $26k. The seller said it's his second car, that's why it's got such a low mileage. Everything is stock with the Lojack anti theft system installed. He also took the car in twice to the dealer for oil changes (mentioned something about him being used to changing the oil every 2,500 miles in his cars). Is that something to be concerned with?

I'm not in a big rush to get one, but my current car ('94 Integra LS) has been giving me some problems lately. So I figure that if this car has a clean Car Fax and his maintenance records check out, I might skip taking it to a dealer for a full inspection and go ahead and buy the car, since a deal like this doesn't come around too often (I don't think) and I don't like dealing with salespeople. Would that be a wise choice?

Also kbb said '05 S2000 with <6000 miles should go for about $25.5k. I'm gonna make a counter offer for 24k. I don't mind spending up to $25k though.

ps it's going to be my daily driver, and I don't plan on modifying it. Maybe if my wife lets me (long shot, lol) I might take it on a track one of these days.

Too much, in Dec '05 a dealer offered me a new 05 at $27.2. That's 1 1/2 years ago and also a new car. Haggle.

BTW, small world, I just sold a '94 Integra LS. My daughter loved driving it, and the guy that bought it said, among everyting else that he drove, the Integra sounded like an S. He's right.

Good luck

those new prices are due from Dealer discounts, not because it was worth that.... i wouldnt sell it for 24k knowing that an 05 w/ that mileage could get more from a true enthusiast and not just a bargain shopper

I have an 05 with 8k on the clock, so low mileage is not uncommon. I don't think he'll give it away for 24k, just my opinion though. Try to do some negotiations. It never hurts to come in low.

Think of it both ways, in your position and in his. My 2002 with the hardtop is worth a little under $20K...and I wouldn't let it sell for a cent under $19K. It depends which one of you has patience...he might be patient and isn't dying to get rid of the car, but you might be the one that has the time to look around for a better price. If he needs to sell, then he will. But I wouldn't go that low if I were him.

it depends on the time of year and the area that you live in.. I'm in the chicago land area and I tried to get one 3 times till i finally got one for a good deal. 3 of them were sold as soon as I inquired about them, only on the market for a couple of days.. One of them sold 15 minutes before I put a bid down.. really sucked.. The one I got was only on the market for 1 day.. It came back with a clean carfax and I had my brother inspect it at his shop.. I got an 05 for 25k and it had 1500 miles on it from a dealer.. Yeah it was one thousand five hundred miles.. I guess an old guy owned it cause it had a country club parking sticker on it and i could still smell the engine and clutch breaking in.. (nothing against old guys... just saying that it probably wasnt driven hard, even though I know a few that amaze me at the autocrosses..) During this time of the year these cars seem to sell like hotcakes, at least the ones that are priced right.. But I think you have room to haggle with this guy.. It seems like he's asking for a little too much especially if he's a private seller.. By the way this is the second s2000 that i've owned.. I had a 2000 when they came out.. Seems a little different with the new engine, but it felt like home when i got in.. Between then and now I've had an isuzu trooper, 350z, and a g35 coupe 6mt, but i guess you always go back to the one you love the most.. hah.... Thats not completely true.. I just couldnt afford a cayman S or an elise right now..
