Default Problem with shifting gears

Hello people,

I just got my 02 S2000 two weeks ago and haven't drove the car much yet. Recently I found some problems by shifting to 2nd gear from the 1st. It doesn't go smoothly. Anybody has idea of what's going on with the problem?

Thanks

This is something I've been wondering about myself. Sometimes 1st and 2nd are kind of rough to go into and I have to push and pull a little depending on the gear. Compared to my friends Honda civic si my s2000 does not shift as smoothly. My friend told me its normal since it's a sports car but it doesn't feel right because sometimes I notice that I'm shifting effortlessly with three fingers and sometimes I have to push a little to put the car in the desired gear. I'm thinking about taking it to the dealer and having them look at it. Anyone else have this problem?

SLD2000, does it have this problem after driving for a few miles and the tranny warms up? My transmission is a little tempermental when cold, but when it warms up, it's smooth as silk.

kumar75150... I'm not sure, but it only happens when shifting from 1st to 2nd, it's fine when shifting from 3rd to 2nd.

hoof... I'm not sure, I'm still breaking in the car and I never drive too far away from home.

Take it to your dealer and have it at least documented. Mine has 5 complaints on this so if the tranny or synchros ever go bad, well, then I am covered

I have just started with the S2000 myself, but while I was a bit concerned with some bumping when changing gears, particularly into third when I just began driving the car, after a week, I have found that the speed of the shift seems to affect the smoothness of the gearchange. Contrary to my usual experience, it seems as if the transmission shifts more smoothly if I shift a bit more quickly than I normally would in a non-competitive situation. Also, the couple of times that I have shifted really quickly, the changes were as smooth as silk.

You might want to try shifting a bit more quickly and see if that helps.

The shifts are usually pretty notchy and hard when the tranny is cold, and also when it is new. The shifts should be smoother once your tranny has been broken in. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. The triple synchro set up from 1st to 2nd gear makes the shift much notchier than the rest. Just let the tranny break in first and see if it still happens.

SRTRick... sure, I'll try it tomorrow and see if it helps

MarkS2K... do you how long is the break in time for the tranny?

Thanks

I don't remember what the tranny break-in mileage was, but it was at least 600 miles, just like the engine. There have been a lot of people that got the TSB done on the tranny and were told to break it in again.
