Default Problems with my car..

So I picked up my S about 2.5 months ago.. At this moment I've already brought it in for a CEL (Bad Gas Cap..), brakes, rough idle, clunky 2nd gear and some other random shit..

They only fixed the gas cap.. Claimed the brakes are normal.. They squeal like crazy since the day I bought the car(Didn't notice till I got the car home of course) And told me the rough idle wasn't there. And also said I was imagining the clunky 2nd gear.. OK..

Now I have a rip in my top from the defect in the way they made the top.. It cut itself.. They told me honda won't warranty it since it's over 36k miles (Bought it at 36,900)

Also I have a CEL again.. (Bad Gas CAP AGAIN!) My dipstick keeps popping out, I still have the rough idle which has been witnessed by many of my friends, and 2nd gear is still clunky..

I'm at a loss of what to do because I guess my 2600$ for my extended warranty doesn't cover shit. And Honda doesn't care as long as they make a buck..

Any thoughts?

When were the brake pads last replaced?

I'd check into the terms of the extended warranty and maybe have a different dealership look at the car. I'd try asking one of the regional forums for a trustworthy Honda dealership as well.

If you're trying to get your dealership to do stuff, you are approaching your problems wrong. Check out my thread on how I got covered for my softtop.

Go directly to hondacare and get a trouble ticket started. Pick your the highest cost item first as hondacare can be fickle. goodluck!

[QUOTE=CKit,Oct 1 2007, 06:38 PM] Didn't you do your homework before getting the car?

Another thing about the pads.. I understand that high performance brake pads should squeal a bit before they warm up.. I have a sportbike and usually after the first or second stop they stop squealing... The s2k keeps squealing for my hour commute to work......

I'm not going to try and piss on you any more than CKit already did..BUT for my own .02...

Gas Cap - I've never EVER heard of one loosening on it's own. Are you sure it hadnt been cross-threaded by the previous owner and now just wont tighten properly (they are plastic)? It will click as long as there is a certain amount of resistant to the turn, but if it isnt sealing...
Probably could get a new one really cheap.

1-2 grind - A lot of people have it, a lot of people deal with it. Some dont. Some are lucky. The fact that you "shouldnt have to" doesnt mean anything. you "should have" noticed it when you testdrove the car. Mine has a notchy 2-3..I deal. Oh well, it doesnt make the car any less enjoyable as a whole.

Brakes - Mine were fine when I got it, then they started squealing. I checked them and the pads were still in great condition so it wasnt the squealer tip. The squeal went away on it's own after a few weeks. Maybe it's gas buildup on the rotors? Try some hard braking in an empty lot to scrub the pads down more maybe. Maybe the pads are just a bad batch. Buy some new ones. They are cheap.

Top rip - This is probably where your warranty will help the most as long as you dont immediately start treating your service rep as a bad guy. Call Honda directly and discuss the issue with them. Treat them with respect, but be firm about how you want it goodwilled as you just got the car. Also check your terms of your extended warranty carefully before calling them too (if it isn't a Honda extended). They are specifically designed for you to NOT be able to use it since that costs them money. They are not in the business to give it away. They want to take it). If it is something you feel should be covered based on your contract terms, fight them for it (politely first, nasty after). If you are unsure of the wording of the contract, contact a contract lawyer. Pay the $35 bar-referral fee to get a 30 min consultation and have him go over it with you.

Rough Idle - See CKit's post. There are plenty of causes, plenty of fixes, and your warranty probably wont specifically cover a "rough idle" since it could any number of things starting as simply bad gas. Maybe try a can of HEET or SeaFoam to help clean the fuel system before thinking it's mechanical failure. Warranties are designed for you to have to pay the teardown costs and if it turns out to be something that is not covered, you get to foot the ENTIRE thing. Not worth it if you can resolve it yourself with a little perseverance and knowledgable people to give you tips...CKit included. Take their sarcasm with a grain of salt and accept that they may still have words of wisdom (and there are tons here).

As for your warranty complaints, I've already discussed that. I've fought with an aftermarket warranty company before. It took me almost 2 months and threat of lawsuits to get it all resolved. They are more-often-than-not...a complete waste of money. They saved my ass (financially)...eventually after I got them to pay. I just had to lawyer up to do it.

Good luck with your troubles

There are some really solid tips there and I can't offer any better. Take the information and run with it, you very well may have some success and will get to know your car a LOT better through research. General reading on here will yield good results as you'll learn some things to expect and you'll know how to troubleshoot and even repair if they happen to come up along the way.

Good luck and don't get down on the car yet! Most of us have few problems along the way and find pretty easy solutions to the ones that do arise.
