On the brakes. It would be easy enough to check one of the front brakes your self.

Check the pads for the backing plates. If I remember, there should be two on one, and one on the other pad. Most aftermarket pads do not come with the backing plates, and just possibly they could be missing. Honda pads come with them, and a moly based lube. The lube is just as important as the plates...

I have had good results using CRC Disc Brake Quiet. It has kept stock, and high performance pads quiet. Just follow the directions.

The gas is a pos. Try holding it around the outside edges when you tighten it. That works for me. If you try tightening it by holding the thing in the middle like you would any other gas cap, it will begin clicking before it's tightened. If you hold it around the outside, you will feel the gas cap go in farther and create suction and then it will click and be fine. If I don't do this the stupid thing untightens itself every single time but this has worked every time I've tightened it this way

Thank you for the tips guys.. The gas cap thing is weird.. I've never had one loosen on me.. I hold it by the middle but push firmly until it clicks at least 5 times..

Like I said Sabre, They told me the gas cap was bad.. I kept tightening it and by the end of the day it was almost off.

My gas cap failed the emissions test in WI last time around (didn't adequetly hold pressure)...went to AutoZone and got a new one for like $12 and was able to pass the test same day. You might try a new one.

And the new Honda MTF did wonders for my notchy transmission, as did a simple MAP whack for my rough idle.

Good luck!

Sabre

Entitlement and whining are two things I can't stand.

But hey, intermingled with my acerbic sarcasm... I did try to post a few helpful tips.

The gas caps are retarded. I'm on my second cap and you have to really have to monkey-grip that thing to make it tight.

It's such a common problem that I hear the AP2.5s got a separate idiot light that says, "tighten your gas cap."

You said I should ask for help here... Well Thats kind of what I did, A little venting and I asked how you guys dealt with a dealer who didn't want to do anything to help.

Thanks for pissing me off more man..
When all the solutions are easy and cheap, I don't know why you wouldn't just fix it yourself?

Especially if your dealer isn't helpful. Some dealers will be, but you've already been denied by yours... so instead of complaining, why not go about trying to fix the problem?

I have a friend with a base WRX. He's been bitching about a rattle that you can only hear when the stereo is off and it's idling quietly. He's taken that car back to the dealer 6 times and they can't "fix" it. I have NO idea what he is expecting.

Over the years, I've gone through and eliminated every squeak and rattle in my car. It takes less time than bringing the car in to the dealer and waiting for them to attempt to fix it.

You missed it, but there was a post a few months ago from a new owner of a preowned S2000 who was RANTING that the tire stem valve caps were missing off his car and he was BITCHING that he had to go allllllll the way back to the dealer because they SUCKED!

We all and said, "um, why don't you just pick up a pack for $3.00 from your Walmart the next time you're grocery shopping?"

I was laughing because after we bought the RS4, I noticed a missing tire stem valve cap and it NEVER crossed my mind that I was "entitled" to anything from the dealer. I just simply picked up a set at Walmart.

It's not worth getting worked up over. Find solutions rather than getting ulcers.

It's a great car, but it's not a Lexus. Hope you get the annoying things taken care of so you can concentrate on driving.

CKit I was with ya until you compared my issues to a guy complaining about valve stem caps...

Mine are a little different as it involves much more $..

I need a new top, patching it is not an option.. I could probably fix the other issues by wasting my money but I feel the dealer has to be responsible for something. They can't just deny the ppl they want to just because they don't feel like wasting money.. That doesn't fly with me.. You are right I could most definitely fix these problems faster if I do it myself, but thats why I went out and bought a CERTIFIED USED HONDA... Not a used honda from a private seller, So I could get shit fixed when it broke..

Am I really asking too much here?

Hey, I happen to agree with you but being realistic in this situation is important. I know it's frustrating and it seems SO cut and dry to you (and maybe a huge number of other people) but that doesn't make the warranty repairs a reality.

I go through this stuff all the time with different companies about different issues whether it's cars, cell phones, insurance, online purchases, the list goes on and on. If you want to be the super-squeeky wheel and spend 15 hours/week corresponding with HondaCare to try and get coverage of everything you feel you're entitled to, then search and pull up the threads of people who have done so before you. You'll also get exposed to the waivering success rate. You will also see that HondaCare DOES sometimes pay if you approach things right and get a little lucky.

My personal feeling would be to do as much as I can myself, take that info to HondaCare to show that you aren't opposed to sharing financial responsibility within reason, but they they need to cover the sizable cost of roof replacement because it's recognized as chronic resurfacing problem.

You can always come and whine a little here, but I'd recommend trying to take a "c'est la vie" position in the future and move on to the solution quickly. Good luck!

Generally I've been told to avoid "Certified Used" from any manufacturer. Doesn't really mean all that much allegedly. Having said that, find a different dealer. Honda World in OC has been great to me. Where are you located?

Not sure why you have a gas cap or dipstick problem though. Got my 04 at 26k miles (uncertified), and those things haven't been an issue. Squealing OEM brakes as far as I know, is not normal...but hey, maybe you do have race pads on there or something.

Btw, from the manual:

If the brake pads need replacing, you
will hear a distinctive, metallic
screeching sound when you apply
the brake pedal. If you do not have
the brake pads replaced, they will
screech all the time. It is normal for
the brakes to occasionally squeal or
squeak when you apply them.

Don't know if that's what you got...
