Default Problems with S2000 that had been supercharded?

I just found out today that the S2000 I am eying on had been supercharged and return to stock. It was a KraftWerks supercharger with the high boost kit. And from reading some of the seller's previous posts on s2kca, he had issue with CEL with the kit. After speaking with the seller, he said he is able to return the car back to stock and he hasn't get a CEL since.

Is there hidden problem with the engine if it has been supercharged? Will a compression test tells how the engine is holding up? Even if the compression turns out OK, will there be other problems that I have to look out for?

It is frustrating to think that you found a good deal but it turns out there is hidden story...

I need your professional input, should I stay away, or if its OK as long as it has good compression?

Why bother risking it? This isn't professional by the way, just my opinion, these cars aren't rare, and there are plenty available.

I agree; I would be hesitant. Too many variables with whether the supercharging was done correctly and if it was abused afterwards.

why are you even considering it?

If you want to buy a stock car, find a stock car that hasn't been modified!

I wouldn't buy a used boosted S. If I want boost, I will buy it myself to make sure it's done correctly. No corners cut, nothing missing, etc

There is too many tests, that you couldn't really find. I would obviously do a compression test. But the valves could be bent, rod bearings could be on their way out. You just never know. Look for a stock S2K man. I agree with the other members in this thread

BTW, do you know what the CEL was for? Possibly just for not running a cat maybe?

Well for what its worth, I have a turbo on my car and never beat on it. So you may need to check the condition of the s2k to see if it was abused.

Depends on how old the seller is (ie 22 vs 40) and condition of the car. If the seller was older and the car was 9.5/10 condition I'd buy it. Worst case you need a new motor so delete that from the price of the car and go from there.

It was for a low voltage in the VTEC solenoid.

I bought my S2000 with a supercharger on it and a different car that had a supercharger before I bought it. Both had no problems, but they were good cars and had OCD previous owners. If you read up on supercharged S2000s there are plenty of guys putting tons of supercharged miles on these cars without significant problems. A quality tune and an owner that knows how to take care of the car are important. If the car checks out and you can get a good read on how the PO took care of it then previously supercharged shouldn't be an issue.
