Is a "processing fee" legitimate or a rip-off?

100%... If some of the things "discovered" there where to be done around here, Jail-Time would be a "common" word here...
BA...
i believe it has come to the point where we, as consumers, feel that because we are armed with such valuable tools such as the internet, we know how much we should pay, and not pay a dime over that amount. No one would ever start a business knowing that they can only make 1-3% profit on each sale but we are shocked to see a car dealership do the same thing. Why do you think car dealerships such as Carmax has been doing so well? They tell you straight up what your price is. Now, what is the price of convenience to the average consumer? The price i can purchase a 2001 vehicle from Carmax will be 500-1000 higher than if i found the same vehicle at a normal dealer. How much is that savings worth to me? Would i want to sit and haggle with the sales person over 500? you betcha.
If a consumer is ticked off that the final price they negotiated was increased due to the "processing fee" haggle them, tell them to take it off the price of the car. If they don't do it, walk away. No one is forcing you to purchase the vehicle. If you think you can run to another dealership and get a price lower that much, go for it.
Consumers have the ultimate power in that you are the buyer, they want to sell you something. You can simply walk away if you feel cheated. They are not forcing you to buy it. Now if you go and purchase the car, grip about the processing fee, that is your own fault, you didn't walk away the dealer won.

Oh by the way, bret you are incorrect on your comment of processing fees(not being the law in GA) being pre-printed on a buyer's order. It IS the law in GA that the "processing fee" has to be disclosed on the buyer's order( meaning it has to be printed).

Here's another one to debate on:
Dealers,
Would you say there is a mood difference between someone who pays full sticker and someone who gets the best deal of the year? Who is more than likely to refer their whole nieghborhood to you? Use the service department?
Of those two extremes, who should be happier?
I'm saving my answers till there are some more responses on here
