Is a "processing fee" legitimate or a rip-off?

This topic is very intriguing to me since i will taking my swings this Sat at a dealer or two.
If the dealer can't match the price i want to pay but come close...should i move on or ask him to throw in the front lip and/or rear spoiler which i would end buying anyway (oem aftermarket)??
I guess it depends on "how" close $$$$.
Opinions??

Thanks BA. Appreciate it! It's just that whenever I go car shopping, I always feel like I'm the one who has to be "on my toes". I feel that it's the dealer who will be the one who will "do me" if I don't stay sharp. I usually don't play games. I simply know what I want down to the last option and detail and know what I don't want. Then I ask for their "bottom line". I will go to every dealer within my area if I have to. No dealer will know what another dealer has said. When it's all said and done, whoever gave me the lowest price and acted in the most civilized manner gets my business.

You're my kind of consumer with one exception....
Once I get some competitive bids I like to let my final two dealers know the price the other is giving and let them bid it out. This can usually be done via phone calls to the sales managers of each dealership. They will bid each other down to a rock bottom price. Whoever has the lowest price usually wins. Except in the case of a small margin of price differencial and a large margin of professionalism. I'll pay the extra Franklin or two for good customer service every time.

And I am sure none of you dealers have ever low balled a customer either.
Yeah it sucks a bit to be in the car business in the internet age but trying to justify the processing fee that this thread was originally about is a load of crap. If the dealer was honest they would just list it as Additional Dealer Profit like we used to back in the '80s when it was great to be selling imports.

I guess I've mellowed a bit in my old age.
