The above is a quote from another post. I heard a similar rumor from my local dealer. Has this been discussed here before? Anyone know where this is coming from? Any truth to it?

It seems odd, when they can't meet demand that this is going around.

I've owned several "no longer in production" cars and it usually means making some after-market provider wealthy when something breaks or is damaged.

Even if the car were to go out of production soon, Honda is required to make replacement parts for it for many years after it goes out of prodcution (can't remember the exact number).
They have to have replacement parts available for up to 10 years after the end of production.(from my best recolection)

Pinky, you are correct sir. It is 10 years. In our case (my employer's that is) we are the ones on the hook for keeping our provided stuff available to the OEM for 10 years.

I work for Johnson Controls. We do car interiors (headliners, door panels, seats, consols, overhead consoles, seat tracks, etc.) batteries, that kind of stuff.

You bet it seems odd, and IMO that rumor is just that -- a rumor. I think it probably originated in the fact that Honda's US dealers only contracted to accept two years of S2000 production to protect themselves against having to sell dogs at a discount. As we all know, that hasn't happened and they'll happily sign on for a few more years when they get the chance.

Anyway, I'm not worried either way. If they stop production I'll keep the car until the parts supply runs out, then sell it to a crazy collector.

The problem is that us guys just want to believe the rumour, so the sales people keep saying it.

You would have to be amazingly gullible to think Honda would stop production if A)They spent a kajillion dollars in R&D and tooling which they need to recoup (no doubt about this one) B) They were making a profit on it (you betcha) C) There is market demand (Don't need to convince anyone 'round here).

Now can we put the 'Limited production rumour' threads to sleep? Please! I'll pay you. How much? Ok, the cheques in the mail

One more year at least...

Please, Honda!

I have a Blue/Black on order!

I'm going to put '00 #920 away for a while if this happens.

May be just a rumor. More likely Honda may produce and not export (i.e. Type V). Apparently Honda did this same thing with some limited production Civic (Si?). Don't know the Honda car Marque that well and my Japanese is week. The rumor is also running in Japan.....the confusion heightened by new 2002 colors being defined (i.e. orange)!
