Default Pros and Cons of purshasing an Extended Warranty for the S2000

I would like members comments about the Pros and Cons of purchasing an extended warranty for the S2000. I am planning on keeping the car at least 4-6 more years. It is MY02 with 11k miles. Is it cost effective to buy an additional 4 plus years with up to 100K miles coverage? Your comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

There have been a lot of threads about dealers not fixing things under warentee, claiming owner abuse. I'm not saying your dealer will do the same thing, but it is something to think about. Also, is this your daily driver? I did not get the ext warentee on my S, but I knew I would hit the years WAY before the miles because I will park it 6 mos out of the year. I did get the ext warentee on my truck which is my daily driver.

To me it's piece of mind. I figure if the honda dealer is going to deny all my claims anyway, I might as well just learn how to fix it myself. If the car is down for a week or two, I am ok because I can still drive my truck. This may not be an option for you.

So I guess I did get an extended warentee in the from of the Helm's Manual and a Chevy Truck.

I bought the 7 year/70,000 mile extended warranty when I got my S, for many reasons but one was that roadside assistance comes as part of the package. Since my S2000 is my "weekend" car, the coverage of this warranty made sense to me, I'm more likely to hit 7 years before I hit 70,000 miles because I don't drive the car enough. A note of caution: before getting any extended warranty, ask for a printed out copy and read it, every word. Most extended warranties cover far less than you expect they would, you need to know exactly what's not covered before you decide to purchase the warranty.

My car is not a daily driver... mostly weekends, and occassionally(1 day per week) I drive it to work. I would put less than 9k yrly on it.
Thanks for your feedback.... keep it coming. Tron

My dealer extends the stock warranty to 4yr and 50k if you bring it to to THEM for required service. Not a bad deal.

I'm in the market for an extended warranty as well. Is it better to get the hondacare warranty to have the "honda" name in it? Do dealer honor the hondacare more easily? I know there are a ton of warranty companies on the internet; are any better or worse, or should I shoot for the best price?

I bought the hondacare extended warranty becuase I thought it would make the car easier to sell if I want to sell it near or past basic warranty period, and because I wanted the peace of mind that I couldn't get without it, as even now there is little expeience with how this high revving engine will do as it nears 100 k miles- not that I don't expect it to do well.

If you want more info this is a fairly well discussed topic- search for extended warranty and you'll find scads on pricing, etc.

one of the reasons i bought the honda care warranty (7yr 100k) was due to the car being my daily driver and that i bought it used, knowing it's a high rev'ing vehicle.

but another factor was something i found in small print in section 2, paragraph E of the Honda Care contract, it basically says that all oil changes recommended by Honda are paid for by the contract up to $25 / change.
i've got my first oil change coming up this Thurs... we'll see how it goes, but oil changes for 7 yrs /100k miles definitely sweetened the deal when i was looking at the price.

If you do not MOD the car or abuse it I am sure you will find the contract honored.

At the cost of major repairs and the complexity of the engine I think the warranty is a must.

Just don't over pay for it, the car is too expensive as it is.

get it, it is good coverage and far cheaper in relation to auto ins. You can always cancel it and get some money back if you sell the car down the line.
