Hello, I have 2 questions:

1. I'm looking at a used y2k silver S2000, 2500 miles, factory aero pieces on nose, rocker, and trunk lid, and factory CD changer. Condition very good, except inside door panels are scuffed up. The dealer (Honda East of Cincinnati) wants $37,500 and is quite firm. This price seems over the top to me. I think $28 - $31K would be a fair cash offer for the car. I don't want to lease. Your opinions? Might former owner that moved to FL be on this forum??

FWIW, same dealer wants $40K for a yellow 2001 model, and tells me Honda will not import the S2000 after the 2001 model. Huh?

2. I would be selling my '93 Mazda RX-7 R1 if I get an S2000. The 3rd gen RX-7 is a wonderful car but maintenance-intense. The S2000 is about the only car I'd consider replacing it with. Any former RX-7 twinturbo owners on this list that now like their S2000 better?

Any advice appreciated. Sorry for the length!

Ned: don't get ripped off. some people don't care they'll pay whatever. if thats what you want go ahead.. i personally think if you pay over 33k you haven't done your homework or your in silicon valley.

go to honda.com search the dealerships in your area.. or as far as you'd be willing to travel and call them up and get a quote.. whatever you get quoted let them know what the best quote you have so far is. they will either meet or beat the price.. if they don't you really don't want to deal with them. you can find them at MSRP.. it took me about a month of hunting but you have to let them know the price you want and that they can't bend that price unless they want to lose a sale.

I second that. Also, winter is prime Stook-hunting season, starting in early December when people get consumed with Christmas. There will be some dealer out there who wants to make a sale by the end of the month who will let a new one out the door for sticker. If you're there on the 28th of December or January with cash in your hand, you'll get it.

Good luck.

Insomniak is right! MSRP is out there. Let your PC do the work for you. Get them competing with each other for your business. Be aggressive.

Thank you all. I am taking my time, will look at other dealers, and won't pay over sticker regardless. Took over 6 months to find my RX-7, and I'm in no hurry now, either.

I did test-drive the silver S2000 (sales mgr. *****ed about that) and it's a treat to drive, though I had to behave myself

It's just hard to believe the bullsh*t treatment I got from the same dealership that did such a great job when we bought my wife's Accord.

Regards,
Ned M

you oughtta be able to get a 2001 for MSRP,
screw 'em and their inflated prices. A used "could" be abused, with this car I wouldnt want any more than the 9 miles that were on it when I started driving it. 7 from the factory and 2 that they drove it for gas. . .
It is true that this is a specialized car, not for everyone, and no body knows how long they will make them! If you want a race car this is it, luxury cruiser it is not, EVEN THOUGH it is not short on comfort!

Good luck

As soon as it starts snowing, MSRP should be easy to find on the east coast. Someone mentioned a couple in NY for MSRP earlier. (I have no idea where Cincinatti is... I just know it is WAY east of here... which means )

In any case, for that money, it better be new. For $37K you can easily buy a new one, even in the Bay Area!!
