Hi guys. I'm new to this scene. I currently have a lease on a 2008 VW Gti. I currently have boltons and a tune which should have me around 260whp 300wtq. My lease ends May of 2011. There are just a couple of options I have been thinking of lately. One of which included getting my hands on an s2000. My residual is in the area of 12k-13k. I expect my car to have a bit over 30k mi on it.

I would just like to gather some helpful advice about this situation. What type of deal could I get on a used s2k? I don't want to buy one too far over 30k. How durable are these cars regarding their aging. How easy are they to mod 100% safely? How expensive are they to mod? Can they be daily driven without problem? I really don't want to have to pay too far over 15k-ish.

What would you guys do?

What would you guys do?
1. Depends on your ability to research and haggle.
2. Depends on your style of driving.
3. No such thing as 100% safely when it comes to modding.
4. Depends on what mods you want.
5. Daily driven is freaking easy.
6. Take your 14 months of free time and read S2ki.com everyday and get all the answers to your questions. Then make your own decision.

Just like anything else to find a great deal you just have to look around. I found my 05 Rio with 21,000 miles for only $16k

The s2k is a great car from what I've seen. Its convertible and handles like a ferrari. They don't have straight line power but they have a lot of potential. I want to know specifics. How well do they respond to mods and how well do they hold up in the long run. I would at most supercharge one. My primary concern is safety. As my daily driver the car needs to be a rock.

Great post!

As for the "scene..." it's not really like that. We have a very wide range of enthusiasts here. Lots of different opinions and preferences. It's like showing up to the Home Depot and announcing your arrival onto the "scene." Lots of different people who are going to have very different purposes and reasons for being there. Not a homogenous "scene" by any means. You'll find that different subforums do have more specific "feels." From your initial post, I'd suggest doing some browsing and searching in "Modifications and Parts," "Forced Induction," and "Street Encounters."

I've noticed that you have more torque than Horsepower. The S is the exact opposite. So if you like tq then you'll have better luck looking into a different car with a powerband that focuses on tq. Even boosting the S will put out around 240-260lb ft tq while squeezing 400-450whp. The S is a momentum car...takes lots of practice to drive right but when you do if feels really good(like you've accomplished something).
