One of my neighbors just revealed he has a Prowler garaged nearby. There's a Viper in town too. Not too many performance rag tops in Sheridan. I've seen about three Porsches but no Porsche roadsters.

The Prowler owner wasn't too up on his car's statistics, but what I found on the web was kind of interesting:
$45,000 MSRP
253 hp at 6400 rpm
255 ft lb 3950 rpm
2838 lb curb weight
cargo capacity 1.8 cubic feet
3.5 L SOHC Aluminum V6
4speed with "Auto-stick"
RWD 2 seater

I found these performance statistics in a deja.com search of usenet discussions:

0-60mph = 5.7 Seconds
1/4 Mile = 14.3 @ 95.4 MPH
Skidpad = .85 G

Okay, so it's not apples and oranges and it's not apples and apples but it's kind of peaches and nectarines, don't you think.

How do others think the Prowler compares to our car?

How many Prowlers are there? The Prowler owner quoted me total production of 5,000 units but I doubt his accuracy. He also told me the car weighs 1800 lb.

Cthree or moderators, if this is OT, move it for me...okay?

The reviews I read were not that kind to the Prowler. Besides the automatic tranny, they criticized such things as the problem in steering feel caused by the outrigger front fenders.

Interesting questions! I have never seen any other thread comparing these two cars before. We used to have somebody on the other board that had a prowler, S2000, and few other exotic cars. Too bad he is not around anymore.
It would be nice to hear from somebody who has own both cars.

An associate of mine has a Prowler. It is really neat car but it is totally different than the S2000. A terrific ride for cruising and seemingly fairly quick but not the car you want to attack the twisties with. It attracts more attention, sounds cool, and rides ok. Just a different animal altogether.

Thanks, Chris, for the comparison. That is what I gathered from dinner last night and a little on the boards.

It looks very distinctive and with that much hp and torque it should be even better than our car on the straight-away.

Honda made such a big deal about "polar moment" that the S2K should be one of the most "on rails" sports cars around. The Prowler is kind of the opposite in that regard.

It does seem that the total production for the Prowler is around 5000 and the mark-up can be more than the MSRP of the S2K.

I say if it has wheels and drives on a paved surface there is enough in common with our car that I want to see a comparison.

It's such a shame that the prowler didn't get a big V8 with like 400 hp. The styling that it has just calls for it. That thing should run the 1/4 in 12 sec. I'd believe that were only 5000 made because I never see them. I think I've only seen 1 or 2.

I think the production for prowlers is somewhere near 1500 per year. I guess '01 will be the third year, so potentially there will eventually be 5k of them around.

Oddly, we just sat in one at the local dealer who cannot sell his silver one even at MSRP.

front and side view are damn nice looking. The rear is a bit ugly to me. Quick at first due to some decent torque, but... no storage, no foot room, not so great handling, etc..... DAMN COOL LOOKING

nothing about the prowler ever impressed me. the back is way too big and the front is too small, seems really awkward to me.

It is, indeed, one neat looking design!

Neat design with Chrysler quality. No thanks- I'll stick to the S2K
