i'm twenty one and have been getting condescended for my ability to obtain false information....

this thread was started to validate the BULLL that I heard,,,,,,instead I've gotten dumb replies.....but nevertheless, I appreciate the feedback

I must apologize for my inferior knowledge.....but remember, I'm just sponging this all in

age isn't a factor here, it all depends on how familiar you are with the car, I didn't believe the brake locked up the wheels at all, that's why i ASKED.....NOT assumed, ASKED....

Thanks again fellas

Why does the wheel lock? I have had it happen after I parked in a tight spot where I had to turn in very sharply...
It's a security thing, to help prevent the car getting stolen. If the would be thief doesn't have the key, they can't steer the car. It's not a cure-all obviously, but every little bit helps.

Witnesses say that if he hadn't pulled the E-brake his steering wheel wouldn't have locked up like typical Hondas.
Sounds like the witnesses have a chip on their shoulder for Hondas.

I'd rather suspect it was more simple than that; simply going round a corner too fast, understeering and driving off the road, or if the ebrake was involved, such as trying to do some sort of high speed handbrake turn, I can picture him losing control and spinning off that way.

I'd boil this down to faulty witnesses, either with a hate for Honda, or simple basic fact that in most cases witness testimony about anything other than gross details is nearly useless.

A tragedy nonetheless.

If the handbrake is pulled, even a little bit, you loose your ABS because of a signal sent to the ABS computer which then allows you to lock your brakes and wheels when applying brakes. With wheels locked you can not steer.

So...the bystander managed to see the driver pull the E-brake as the car was flying by at 90MPH? I thought I had pretty good vision, but wow... I mean, to see into the car, and ascertain that it wasn't the shift knob the driver had his hand on, and to be standing at just the perfect observation point to see it...wow... that's really all I have, just...wow

[QUOTE=daktruckie99,Dec 18 2007, 10:46 AM] I have never heard of a steering wheel locking because of an E-Brake, in ANY car.

No, I read books, magazines, and tried stuff myself...if I haven't found the answer then I ask...You could have easily went outside and pulled the ebrake and tried to turn the wheel...but like most youngsters nowadays (I'm 23 lol) you decided to come onto and internet forum and ask a question that is based upon bystanders that proposed clearly non-credible facts and assumptions (seeing him pull the ebrake at 90 mph...person had to be an x-men to see that)...But now you know and knowing is half the battle...GO JOE
