puposefully skipping a gear on upshift?
I've switched back to Honda MTF from GM Synchromesh. The GM fluid was good for cold starts and 2nd gear wasn't too hard to engage. I went back to the Honda fluid because I like the feel better when the tranny warmed up. The GM had a too loose feel when the tranny was warm.
Anyways, with the Honda MTF, 2nd is tough to get into when cold, you really have to be very deliberate and muscle it in almost. Every other gear is fine when cold. On the way home today I begain to skip 2nd and double clutch into 3rd on the upshift. I am not lugging the engine or anything here so is it alright to do this till the tranny has warmed up?
After I this this skipping on a couple starts I went back to normal and included 2nd and it was fine since the tranny warmed up.

i skip shift all the time. If i'm getting on the freeway, I will go from 2 to 5th or 6th sometime. As long as you double clutch or just wait long enough and are going fast enough...it's not big deal.

your tranny is full synchro.
shift into any gear that you want, just do it without lugging or over revving engine.

ok, so double clutch...don't use the synchros.
you have to match revs too to make it work though.
what they are talking about is if you were to shift from 2nd to 5th fast....this always grinds. You have to allow the revs to drop to an acceptable level, then it slides in just like coming from 4th. it isn't like the transmission "knows" what gear you were just in.
