The spoilers, side strakes and floor mats are options you might want. The wheel locks, VIN etching and detailing you probably don't need. I recommend you go to http://www.honda-accessories.com and check what they sell the same options for. For the mats, sploilers and strakes, their cost is $1107.60. The dealers cost for the same items is $2507.00 - a markup up of $1400.

You have to consider....if you can get the dealer to knock of the "unessentials" but leave the mods (which BTW DO make the car look better), can you live with the markup of $1400? Alternatively, you can get a printout of the H-A pages and show this to the dealer and ask him to explain why the outrageous price markup. He may just back down or reduce the price by a thousand or so.

Lastly, consider what YOU would like as options and see if he will substitute those you don't want, for those you do. I recommend the rear spoiler for sure, front spoiler, dust cover, CD player (maybe), titanium shift knob (a favorite with everyone), floor mats (definitely), and the aeroscreen (so you can then order Rick's new Lexan screen for it).

The balls in your court. Tell them to take it or leave it - or you'll leave it and go elsewhere.

wea- you probably dont want all of those body effects...(make sure first- they can not be easily removed without holes in the car). the reason everyone is telling you to forget the floor mats is that they aren't any good! they do not cover the entire floor, and they wear very quickly. i got several forced options, but no body parts! maybe they would let you take other options instead? if not, my opinion is that you should try another dealer.

My floor mats also still look like new with over a year of daily driving.

1Y2KS2K - The floor mats and areo screen are standard equipment on the 2001 models. Not options.

The Honda floor mats look great but the stupid things won't sit straight (at least on the drivers' side). I have to constantly lean down and straighten mine every time I get into the car. Honda should have provided 2 post-type brackets to anchor the mat with.

We used McDavid Honda in Houston and got it as MSRP. Email me if you would like our salesman's name.

Wea,
If I were in your situation, I wouldn't walk away from this deal. I would RUN away. These people are not honest. There are hundreds of Honda dealers. Most are honest. With a little effort, you should find the car you want at MSRP with no forced options.

I wouldn't take a single thing that doesn't arrive on the truck with the car. It's ridiculous to have to take an "option" when it is not really an option. You should be able to choose what extra things you do or do not want on a vehicle you'll probably spend the next several years with. Bail on the deal if they won't budge and go with one of the dealers mentioned above.

Thanks, for all of your help and advise. I'm really impressed! I received 18 replies in one day. I will be following up chris_w and wirejock as they are closest and I'll work my way out from there. The insight of those who replied has really helped me to see that a S2000 at MSRP is possible.
