Default Q: oil change

Hey guys, Listen up, see if you can help me out.

Its time to change the oil in my car, Its low, and I have a scheduled a appointmet for thursday. The guy seemed nice and told me its cheaper if I by Sythetic oil myself, and They will only charge labor/oil filter. Anyway, In the mean time I want to fill the oil back up to where it should be on the stick. What type of oil should I by till thursday?

I don't know if the car has regular or synthetic right now, would it be bad to mix 2 different oils?
And what grade oil should I buy for my car?

ps: my S has about 13,xxx miles

Thanks again

if you don't know what oil the car has in it now, go with a wide range viscosity synthetic until your change. it's probably 10W30 or 10W40 as specified.

don't feel an adversion to the search function. it's your friend. this is a common question and one you can learn a lot from others who have posted before you.

you didnt say how low...
if not too low, prob o.k. to leave it until thurs-
you can mix dino and synthetic, but you lose all benefits of the synthetic. if you need to add more, i would just add dino.

Now that you are over 10k, and were thinking about switching......many of us choose Mobil 1 Synth 10w30. The place I take the car didn't offer it, so I made sure they would let me bring my own - and charge just for the labor. As long as you explain you MUST have the fluid installed or nothing....they will usually fold. You shouldn't have to pay more than 15-20 bucks.
