Thumbs up Question About Insurance for HT Owners

I'm about to pull the trigger for a HT. Being that HTs don't come as part of original equipment, does it cost extra to cover them on insurance? It just seems like a $3000 option, usually purchased well after car delivery and initiation of auto coverage, would result in an increase in ins premium. Any and all feedback appreciated.

I would think if anything it would lower your premium, not as easy to break in...
Although I honestly don't see it affecting it either way. The top is part of the car, so if the car is stolen it should be covered. It's not like some aftermarket stereo etc b/s that you added, it's a factory offered option.
If the top is stolen, well that would be considered damage to the car...

Just my .02 cents

I would call your ins agent and see what he/she says.

Alright, I called my insurance co. (the folks with the gecko). When I first posed the question the agent replied that since the top would be considered a customization there would be a $200 increase in my annual premium. I then more clearly explained that the top is an OE Honda piece, which can be installed by Honda before taking delivery of the car. I told her I just couldn't afford it at the time of delivery. She then said that would constitute a factory installed piece, therefore no change in my premium. Oh, I also informed her that there are other insurers that don't raise the premium for such an OEM option. The agent also told me to keep my Honda purchased and Honda installed receipts, as they will be required if I have to make a claim.

This means a slight change in my plans...instead of DIY, I'll have to get Honda to install it for me. So, anyone know how much the Honda service guys charge for this install? Again, thx for any feedback.

figure 4 hours labor at their shop rate.

the comprehensive portion is by far not the biggest piece of your premium. A HT can only lower this part. Even if the premium were lowered, it won't be much at all.
