question about keeping my car?
K, so I have a 2000 S2K, black/black which I love. Here's the dilema: I just bought the new 2003 Infiniti G35 as I had to have a four door for my new job and should sell my S2000.
The major problem is the trade-in and even outright sale value on these is tragic right now. No one will offer more than $25K.
I can afford both, but barely. I would prefer not to right now. It's really silly to keep two cars and pay $1200 in payments a month.
So my options are:
1) Sell it outright and walk away wounded but with no car payment.
2) Trade it for a car a used Porsche 911 (80-84) or a highly tuneable car in the 11-13K range so I can just roll the negative at a dealer and drop my payments over $300/month, shorten my loan term and lower my debt overall but still have a second car payment or
3) Smile and nod and buy a Vortec supercharger because you only live once and I really want my S2000 to go faster. Which obviously and absolutely defeats the "save money" principle.
So, suggestions, comments, concerns are more than welcom. Hope you're all doing well

Sell the S2000, You're choice for a near-lux car is excellent. You shouldn't have to struggle to hang onto things really don't need. Push the payments into a saving account and let grow for a year or pay off some debts.
Well I am in the same dilema. I am also considering the G35. Which one did you get and what packages did you get? What are your impressions? I am torn between the G35 and the CL-S (manual). I have heard they ate coming out with the G35 coupe in Novemberish and a manual G35 sedan in Feb of 2003.
I work for an Infiniti dealership and you should just have waited for the coupe cause that car is tight or could have just went to LA cause they are getting some in right now and for S2k_LA you should wait for the coupe in comes in a manual with 275hp and 260lbs/tor dont get the CL-S
I bought a 2003 G35 Sedan, black w/black leather. Glass moonroof, leather, sport suspension (17" 5 spoke wheels) and spoiler (.26 cod). I really searched for this particular combo. It's basically a stripper except for the afore mentioned items. My goal was to keep it as inexpensive as possible, the color combo I wanted and the 3 items I had to have (leather, sport, sunroof).
I would love to have the G35 Coupe but I do need a four door work as a realtor.
It's a simply amazing and beautiful car. The torque puts my little S2K to shame. And I leased it out the door for $31.5. Simply amazing, better warranty, performance, value and everything else than anything in it's league (there really isn't anything). I love the design and it's $9,000 cheaper than a comparably equipped 330Ci sedan with less hp, torque, less roomy, etc.
I don't regret buying the G at all but it just sucks that the value of the S2000 is HORRIBLE right now and it's only going down. I've had it on autotrader for 3 months now and nothing. I've lowered the price to $28K and that's still to high apparantly.
Thanks for the input. I do agree, I just need to find a willing buyer, pay the difference on my loan and walk away.

Yeah I think the G35 was a wise choice.
Is there a CarMax in your area? http://www.carmax.com
They may buy your car from you.

The car is 3 years old and its value is still at roughly 78% of sticker. That is pretty solid for any car. What did you expect? Its not like there were only 5000 made. If you had bought a Ford that cost $33k you would be luck to get $15k for it.
Anyway if you like the S refinance it and drop your payments. Maybe your ship will come in and you can pay it off early.

I bought my 2000 S for less than 28k this year with only 24,000 miles and a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. And it was a certified Honda too. I love my S, but it's not worth $35,000. I believe that the car was over hyped when it was first released. People thought that it was more a vette rival in terms of speed. But in reality, it really rivals a Mustang GT convertible. There are so many cars that beat the S in hp, torque, room, and style. The Boxter S has 252 hp and more torque than the S. The SLK AMG has 3?? Hp and killer torque, plus a hard top. And now that the Z4 is about to come out as well as the 350Z, the S is about to die for real. It is at the bottom of the barrel now, but in 1999 it was at the top. That's why the value has dropped so. At least there's always the Miata.
