Question about transmission and clutch
I wouldn't make a habit of doing this either. Have you noticed that it takes more effort to move the shifter from gear to neutral without disengaging the clutch? It's because the force of the engine is applying torque pressure to the entire drive line. Your shift fork has to work against this force to move the dog gear away from the gear.
its only ok when you know how to change gears without using the clutch. its all about timing, i can do it but i have lots of experience. in fact, you can do it with almost any car that you're very familiar with.
it can be done without doing any damage but the car must be coasting along at a constant speed with the engine not accelerating or braking the car....... at that speed there is minimal loading on the gearset and the shifter will pop out quite easily!
Practice in your beater first though!!
